The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

We were in the liquor store the other day (had to replace the bourbon). I should have looked at the rums more closely.

From what I found on Bacardi's site, there's a whole raft of neat flavors now. I'd like to try some of the flavored rums, neat.

The kids and I were watching the Twilight Zone Marathon on SciFi. They enjoyed them. I always like TZ; they were always little morality plays. Burgess Meredith seemed to show up quite a lot, and I even saw one with VEY young Dean Stockwell in one about soldiers in the Phillipines on Aug. 6, 1945. It took me a while to recognize him, then I couldn't remember his name!! I knew he'd been on that TV show where the guy jumps around in time being different characters, but I couldn't remember that name either. Joseph just reminded me that it was Quantum Leap, so I IMDB'd the show and found out Stockwell's name.

Yeah, we'll watch the ball drop at midnight. I'm gonna have to wake SirKit up to see it, I think!

We're watching football on ESPN right now, N.Y. Giants at the Oakland Raiders. Pretty good game!

I tried the popper thing. It did help a bit.

But I think that was my last shot for 2005. :-D

Heh. Only a few minutes to get in another one...

If your head doesn't hurt in the morning it wasn't tequila... :-)

I've never tasted tequila neat. I'm thinkin' I don't ever want to. *gak*

*sigh* I didn't read the invitation closely when I got it - thought the party started at *eight*, and only found it said *ten* when I reread it to get the directions. Eek! If I'd realized it started so late, I prolly wouldn'ta said I'd come.

But I'm all dolled up and trying to decide whether I can get away with coming ten minutes early, or if one comes slightly late to such things. ;-)

Well, the hostess is probably sitting around wondering if anyone's gonna come at all (at least that's what I always fear) so she'd probably appreciate you coming any time now :~D

Show up early and ask to help them with any last minute setting up. It'll be appreciated and you can cut out early if it's not a good time by 11.

I'm really nervous about the drive home. I suppose that's *not* a good way to start an evening out?

Heh...this is way out of my comfort zone, truth be told. I'd rather sit here and watch an old movie or something.

Five minutes and I'm heading out.

Just lay off the shots of tequila, and you'll make it home just fine :~D

But there will be tequila drinkers out there! And cops checking for tequila drinkers! That's what I'm worried about...eek!

Well...here goes nothin'. See ya later - Happy New Year, all!

I'm not bringing an instrument...this time, anyhow. I've tried to talk music with this bunch and got a lot of yawns. ;-)

I still want to find other musicians eventually. Besides the hardcore bluegrass speed-is-king group - they were a little scary.

OK, NOW I'm gone!
