The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I didn't realize it was a chain. It's in one of the more affluent towns in the area, and right on a main drag, though you have to tell people to look out for it because it's on the first floor of a building, and sorta non-descript. One of my favorite things is their Black and Blue Quesadilla; steak and blue cheese in a flour tortilla. MMMM... We also like the chips they serve to everyone as you're figuring out your order. They have the usually yellow corn chips (like Tostitos), but they also have blue corn chips, sweet potato chips and a chip made from won ton skins and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. Yummmmm.

Well, I was given a tamale steamer for Christmas so I figure - what the hey! I love tamales! I grew up eating them for New Years. We'd buy them from a family (6 girls, 6 aunts, a couple grandmas) that made a bajillion dozen every year. It'll be my last starchy hurrah for a while.

Ooooh, I'm happy just thinking about 'em. I love tamales.

Oh, that tie would work fine on the scarf if it's only 4" wide, especially with the wispier yarn! And yes, the tie should stay in place. If it were a silk scarf, there might be a possibility of slipping, but not with a crocheted fuzzy scarf.

Hmmm. I'm thinking I'm gonna pick up one of the skeins of yarn we bought and try a skinny scarf myself!

The Director of our Church choir made 'necklaces' for all the ladies in the group using several strands of one of those funky yarns that has a metallic thread running through the fuzzy stuff. She took several strand, tied them together on the ends, worked them into a cone shaped metal finding, then attach the clasp to that., You just kinda twist the yarns, then put the clasp on. They're very nice

Best effects I've seen yet. Utterly seamless.

Yah. Seamless is right. Really impossible to tell where the threshold between real and CGI was. I'm sure some of it was real props and some of it was CGI, but there's no telling which was which. Only maybe a couple of times did I spot something little that must have been CGI, but only little places.

Kong was magnificent. Andy Serkis needs an award. He really pulled it off. I didn't realize until getting home and checking out the website that Serkis also played the role of the ship's cook. It didn't look like him...

I think PJ is darn lucky to have made out so well with this flick. All of its flaws draw from his exuberance. He needs to apply a little of the Chanel design ethic: "Never add, always remove." It was too long, needed some editing to improve the pace. But it was an amazing movie to watch

I think my brother said he kept his editing team from LOTR...that could explain a lot. ;-)

Maybe I'll go see Kong tomorrow...or Sunday afternoon, if the theater's open! Give me something to do.

I think editing to them just means working out the "meanwhile..." parts...not actually cutting anything out. ;-)

Hmmm... You know, I'd heard it was long... but it didn't seem that way to me. Seemed to move right along. Dunno.

But then again all the reviews I've seen talked about how long it was and how the boat trip seemed to take forever, and that sort of thing. So my expectations were already "managed" by what I'd read... and it wasn't long like I expected.

So there's that.
