The Hobbit Hole XXVI - Home is behind, the world ahead
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 12/11/2005 8:37:40 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Home is behind, the world ahead

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Singing along?

Man...with as many younger siblings as I've got, it's gonna be another five years or so before I can watch that again, I'm afraid. It gets old after a couple hundred viewings.

Usually I'm pouring out batter from the big pyrex bowl with one hand and guiding it out with a spatula in the other hand.

DO try to rent or buy one of the Wallace and Gromit DVD's. They are truly funny!

Clare and I saw the Tallis Scholars in concert last year in Boston. It was just wonderful; they are so talented!

When we're finished opening gifts on Christmas morning, I fire up the CD player and put in the Messiah. I sing the alto part while I'm cooking dinner.;o)

We had a nice set growing up, but none of us have it on CD.

I know some of the tenor parts, due to choir at the college and because that's the part Mom learned and used to sing. I know, we're weird...

Heh, when we're having Festival Choir practice, I sometimes have to sing along with the tenors if there aren't enough of them at that practice. Thankfully, another tenor showed up at the last practice so I didn't have to learn the whole tenor part.

Reminds me of the old country song that talked about "Daddy sang bass, Mama sang tenor."

I really enjoyed singing tenor with the college choir. You know, since the choir I sang for awhile with in high school was all girls, I have a feeling a lot of the "alto" parts they gave us were actually tenor. I was surprised when I got to the college and found I really couldn't sing much of the alto parts. Too high fer me.

Believe it or not, I've only seen it maybe 4 or 5 times in my whole life.

Having Hispanic parents kind of stunts your classic-film-growth.

The first time I saw Casablanca was at Entmoot!

*stretch* I'm beat. Off to bed!

And good luck with Mr. Beepy tonight. :-/

Thanks! ;-) I think we'll be all set. I'm gonna head to bed pretty quick here, too. Got lost time to make up for!

*shudder*

All done, then?

I'm just hopin' the stuff I ordered for my brother on-line gets here Monday. If not...it's likely to be late, since I gotta send it out again.

I know I could have just had it sent to him, but...I didn't.

Seeing as how we were discussing Mr T the other day, I figured I should pass this on. Got posted in the singles thread - Mr T's tribute to mothers. It's almost in the realm of the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins. But nothing is quite THAT bad.
