Remember it was 2 years ago when 6 dem senators met in Sen Landrieu's home and they formed Democracyradio. They got wealthy dem donors to kick in 1.7 mil. Other senators were Daschle, Dorgan,Staeblow and some inout from Clinton and Kennedy. Their number one concern was getting Sen Daschle reelected as majority leader. They needed a Rush from the left for talk radio. Randi Rhodes was their choice and she turned them down.Sen Daschle and Dorgan talked to Ed Schultz a longtime conservative radio talk show host on KFGO in Fargo( 70 miles from Daschles hometown, Aberdeen SD)He had changed to be a liberal. Most knew he did this for the money only. He studied and copied Rush and came across as hollering, bitching mad russian with a drink in one hand and the gun in the other. He changed to be that red neck liberal he thought America wanted. He was and is a hustler, a real blowhard who rarely researches anything but copies other radio heads and wings it. Sen Staehlow new hubby was Tom Athans and they made him President of Democracy Radio and set up offices in Wash DC.They hired Jones Network to sign up stations.January 2 years ago he went on the air.Hollering bitching and a very low class act.It was awful than and is worse now. He lied about his background saying he was the receipent of a Marconi award and a Peabody, when he won neither. He said he was a former NFL player and never was..he lied over and over. His big promise was that he would beat Rush in total stations. He said he would have 300or more by end of two years. He was given a two yr contract for a $250k a yr and he got his wife in for another $50k a yr and his staff for another $75 a yr...$750k all for him in first 2 yrs.Plus he got to be his own boss and had final say what he would say. None of importance in radio stations signed up with him. He had about 50 to start and they were all tiny am stations. He punded away for buddy Daschle and Tom lost. His station tota was 95 after one year. Rush had 220 stations day one. Rush today has 660 stations. In the second year Ed only got 7more stations all year..to 102 stations as of today. Thats terrible! 75% of stations are small. He is in very little large markets like Rush and Sean are. He failed big time. But again he lucked out as Democracy Radio saw him failing and sold his show in June to Project one owned by Randy Michaels former ceo of Clearchannel. Randy gave him a 5 yr contract and brought him in as a partner. Since June nothing has happened to the show and Randy owning means nothing except Ed has security. By the way this fall Tom Athans bailed out and left DR high and dry and most of the upfront money gone. He went to competitor Air America as a Wash DC rep. It appears that the whole plan of getting Daschle re elected had failed and his stations growth and power had failed so Democracy Radio is barely hanging on. Did they use the 1.7 mil and fly the coup? Those six senators dont want to talk about this and wish it would go away. Why?
What do you hear about his show etc?
I've never heard of this person or of Democracy Radio. Wait - wasn't Ed Schultz the creator of the Charlie Brown comics?
It never ceases to amaze me that the leftists do not understand a radio program that has to be sustained with private money IS NOT POPULAR WITH THE PUBLIC!
Don;t get your undies in a bunch about Ed Shultz...its all just infotainment....If some folks want to give him big bucks to go the mound--what the heck...
THe more competitiion the better. If the nations AM Radio listeners really want to Listen to Ed Schultz and Air America, they will....so far the numbers show that they don't--it is literally the "marketplace of ideas"
So calm down and don;t worry about Ed Schultz and whether he is was or going to be a conservative, liberal, whatever---he did it for money? So what! Its just infotainemnt--repeat after me, its just infotainment, its just infotainment----all of them, RUsh, Hannity, Savage, Rhodes, Schultz, Franken...its just infortainemnt, its just infotainment....
I noticed you joined today to tell us all of this - trying to create some hype for the guy perhaps???
Schultz was the "Golden Boy" of Lib radio. He shoulda hired Daschle's wife to sell his product- at least he'd be on NPR today.
Uh...welcome to FR. I guess.
I had the misfortune of hearing about 30 minutes of Ed Schultz during a blizzard in North Dakota. It was the only station I could get. He spent the entire half hour talking about himself, and how popular HE was, and how successful HIS show was going to be, and me me me, blah blah blah.
I stopped listening to Rush years ago because of his penchant of talking at length about himself and his greatness. Rush seems like a humble monk next to this Schultz guy--not to mention Rush is an actual, bona fide success. Schultz is a pretentious poseur.
You couldn't pay me to listen to Ed Schultz again.
Well, I had the "Schultz" right.
No, no...Ed Schultz was the Nazi Sergeant on Hogan's Heroes.
Wasn't he?
So true. AND if that isn't bad enough then Ed Shultz went running to the Senate to make sure he could have equal time on the America Forces Radio Network because (reported here from Shultz not on AFRN )
Schultz, who does a nationally syndicated talk radio show from his home in Fargo, North Dakota, received word last week that his show would debut today on the taxpayer-funded radio network for U.S. troops around the world. Last Friday, Schultz played excerpts of Barber coaching the troops in the satellite feed. At 6 a.m. today, Schultz's producer, James Holm, received a phone call from Allison Barber. Barber informed Holm that AFRN would not air Schultz's show today, and that she could not guarantee the show would ever be added to the network.
He is simply another blowhard carried by Errhead America, but is syndicated by the Jones Radio Network.
Yes, Ed Shultz...the very one!!!
