A woman feeding birds from her frozen porch in Hull, Mass. The town, about 20 miles southeast of Boston, is located on a peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and Boston Harbor.

My ship looked like that a few times on runs back to boston from up in Maine. We had to beat the ice off with bats and axes so it wouldn't get top heavy and roll over.

Coast Guard buoy tender. We worked buoys and fueled lighthouse from the north shore of Cape Cod to the Canadian border. The work had to get done, so weather wasn't much of a factor unless we were expected to get really really high seas. It was a round bottom boat, so every little wave made the thing rock. i worked in the engine room, and all the other engineers were really susceptible to seasickness, so i got stuck with the worst watches. Bigtime puke factory.

Funny you should mention that, the Timberlake Lodge in Mount Hood, OR is where the exterior shots of The Shining was filmed. We visited it in October when we went to OR.
The interior was actually a film studio in England.
Stephen King got the idea for the movie when he stayed at the Stanley Hotel
in Estes Park, CO. The made for t.v. version of The Shining was actually filmed at the Stanley.
More info then you wanted, right? I'm the Cliff Clavin of The Shining trivia! ;-)
