Melanie McGuire was released from a New Jersey jail on Saturday night. She pleaded innocent to charges of murder, desecration of a corpse, perjury and a weapons violation.

McGuire was arrested in June, 13 months after William McGuire's body washed up in three suitcases near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia.

The Virginia medical examiner determined that McGuire was shot at least twice, once in the head and once in the chest.

Joseph Tacopina, McGuire's high-profile defense attorney, confirmed last night the 33-year-old registered nurse had been released.

"People who she has obviously done good things for in her profession and in her personal relationships have stepped up to the plate and made a considerable bail package for her," said Tacopina, an attorney who has gained fame for the clients he has defended and for TV appearances he has made.

McGuire worked for Reproductive Medical Associates in Morristown, a fertility clinic, prior to her arrest.
