Like anything good for America is bad for the Dems...anything bad for the BCS is good for us.

Vince Young plays defense?

Oregon has no gripe. They didn't win their conference.

AS for this:

Tell you what, if Ohio State loses their two receivers prior to Notre Dame, they'll look as crappy offensively as they did earlier this year, and get "exposed" real fast in that one too.

Since they run a LOT of 3 WR sets, that means that one of their go to guys will still be on the field. Since ND can't stop the run to save their lives, OSU will will have Troy Smith on the edges running the ball. They aren't as easy to stop as you Pac-10 homers think they are.

yeah...

now it's becoming anything that's bad for the BCS and the Pac-10 is good for me too.

Good Lord I wish they would get some cheese for Oregon's whine.

I don't recall Cal whining nearly as much last year.

They didn't.

And they only lost to USC by what 3 or 4 points?

Oregon lost by 3 or 4 TDs....

I'm surprised how many folks apparently don't understand the concept of the automatic bid for the BCS bowls. I can't tell you how many people have asked me how come West Virginia is playing in the Sugar Bowl.

yeah....

although I don't like the automatic bids either.

It should be the BCS top 8....

but I think that would leave one of the power conferences out (ACC) because VT choked in another big game.

FSU 27-17 against a bad quarterback.

You must mean Fresno State, because Florida State will get smacked in the Orange Bowl. Penn State will win by at least 20.

They'll never get rid of the automatic bids because then the conferences won't take part. The current at large bids are just bonus money for whatever conference gets them.

Which begs another question. Ohio St. is getting a big payday for their BCS appearance and so will the Big Ten on top of Penn St.'s appearance in the Orange Bowl. ND obviously gets money for their Fiesta Bowl trip but what happens to the money that was supposed to go to the conference considering ND doesn't belong to one?! Do they get a REALLY big pay day?

I have seen Dixon and Leaf, and yes, they have done really well, and made some clutch plays over the past month. Clemens was really good, however, and it's always nice to have the senior in there. Hopefully Oregon comes into the game with the 'red-ass', fired up to win, as opposed to disappointed and flat. I think they'll have the red-ass, frankly.

The teams share the bulk of the money with the rest of the conference. Penn State should make a small profit on the unshared money (after traveling expenses are taken out.) Same with OSU.

Having a second BCS game for the Big Ten is gravy for all of the conference members.

ND obviously gets money for their Fiesta Bowl trip but what happens to the money that was supposed to go to the conference considering ND doesn't belong to one?! Do they get a REALLY big pay day?

Notre Dame got an at-large bid. And doesn't have to share with anyone. Big payday.

The whining was much worse last year I think.

Sample: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1295167/posts?q=1&&page=101

The Pac-10 gets Texas (12-0), Oklahoma(7-4), Northwestern(7-4), RUTGERS(7-4), BYU(6-5)

Big XII gets to play USC (12-0), Houston (6-5), Clemson(7-4), Michigan(7-4), Oregon(10-1), South Carolina(7-4), TCU (10-1), Alabama (9-2)

SEC opponents: West Virginia (10-1), Iowa (7-4), Missouri (6-5), Miami (9-2), Wisconsin (9-3), Texas Tech (9-2)

Big Ten opponents: Florida State (8-4), Notre Dame (9-2), Auburn (9-2), UCLA (9-2), Florida (8-3), Nebraska (7-4), Virginia (6-5)

ACC Opponents: Penn State (10-1), Boise State (9-3), Colorado (7-5), South Florida (6-5), Louisville (9-2), LSU (10-2), Utah (6-5)

Rutgers? BYU? Guess the Pac 10 couldn't get Ball State to play them in a bowl game.

"Vince Young plays defense?"

So if Vince Young gets hurt and can't play against USC, you don't think that would translate to points for USC and a bigger rout? The offense can't move the ball, it's 3 and out every other possession, your defense is on the field all day, not to mention the lift the other side gets and the demoralizing impact on your own team, knowing you can't move the ball and won't score much today?

"Oregon has no gripe."

I'm not arguing that they do. My discussion was in answer to your swipe at Cal for their loss last year. The same logic comes from people criticizing Arizona State's fade this year (but oh that's right, their qb tore ligaments in his thumb and missed the whole second half of the year), Cal's disappointing performance this year (their one good qb broke his leg the first game of the season), Oregon struggling with teams over the past month (and their senior quarterback broke his leg and is out for the year). I remember how well Georgia did when their QB missed a game or two and I remember how well Ohio State did earlier this year when they couldn't figure out who should play at that position.

When key players can't play, and the team loses, saying they were 'exposed' is the true indicator of a 'homer'.

"Guess the Pac-10 couldn't get Ball State to play them in a bowl game."

Yeah, playing against teams like Oklahoma and Northwestern doesn't really give much opportunity to prove anything, given that UCLA already smoked Oklahoma 41-24 earlier this year and Arizona State crushed Northwestern 52-21 earlier this year.

I hadn't considered that - so the Pac 10 has only 1 hard game in the bowls.

I was pointing out that the other conferences get games against multiple 9+ win teams, while USC gets Texas only because they HAVE to.

And in no way do I blame the Pac 10 for their cakewalk bowl schedule, but it will be annoying to hear their fans crow about being 4-1 or 5-0 when they really haven't played the caliber of teams the other conferences did.

Go Scarlet Knights, indeed.

"While USC gets Texas only because they HAVE to."

None of the Pac-10 teams gets to choose who they play in the bowls. And Oregon is being criticized for wanting to play a better team in a bigger bowl. The Pac-10 doesn't duck anyone, never has. Their non-conference scheduling is aggressive every year, and their bowl performances over the years have been better than most conferences. They have the best BCS bowl game record (6-1) of any league since 2000, and 4 different schools won those games, it's not just USC. It's amazing the criticism this league takes, especially from fans of teams in leagues the Pac-10 regularly pummells when head-to-head games are played.

well the Florida bowl games get bigger matchups because they are eastern teams playing.

The Pac-10 is in quite a quandry with it's bowl tie-ins. The only truly big bowl games west of Texas is the Fiesta and the Rose. The rest of them change their names every couple years.

And their fans won't travel to Florida because why leave great weather for great weather? It's a generalization, but it's one the Pac-10 isn't even bothering to fight.

hey they want to and still do complain about it.

Win your conference. Otherwise, win your bowl game and don't gripe.

Everything else is an excuse.
