CBS4 has learned that two apparent gravesites have been discovered in Hudson, Ohio. This is one of many areas in which authorities have been searching for the remains of Philip and Sarah Gehring.
According to CBS4s affiliate in Ohio the bodies were discovered while a woman was walking her dog. The dog managed to escape its owner's grasp and when she reached the dog, she found it digging at some plastic. She noticed the plastic was covering two bodies placed in a shallow grave.
The New Hampshire brother and sister were murdered by their father in July of 2003. He admitted to the crime and told authorities he buried the children's bodies somewhere in the Midwest. Gehring gave a vague description of the burial site, but an exhaustive search never turned up their bodies.
CBS4 has spoken to the family, and they have been notified by the FBI that two sets of remains have been found. At this time there is no confirmation these are the remains of the Gehring children.
Manuel Gehring told police he buried 14 year-old Sarah and 11 year-old Philip in a single grave right off of I-80. He told police he buried the children somewhere along a 700-mile stretch of the interstate between Pennsylvania and Iowa, but he could not pinpoint the spot. The site authorities are looking at today is also off that highway.
When he confessed, Manuel Gehring described the site as having tall grass, concrete pipes, a wire fence, an old water pump and a yellowish building in sight of the graves, which he said were near the interstate.
Many of the characteristics of this crime scene are similar to those Manuel Gehring described, according to our affiliate who just attended a press conference with the FBI.
There was tall grass in front of a wooded area, cement cylinders were nearby, there was an old gas pump (Gehring referenced a water pump, but the gas pump could be easily mistaken for a water pump). There were the two bodies wrapped in black plastic and a makeshift cross at the site a description Gehring had supplied to authorities.
Authorities are suspecting that these bodies may be those of the two Gehring children, but it is not yet confirmed.
Gehring killed himself in prison before he could be brought to trial.
Earlier this year, Philip and Sarahs mother retraced the route driven by her ex-husband, hoping to drum-up new leads.
God Bless their mother. At least she can say good-bye properly to her kids, now.
God bless them.
I read about their mother's search for them earlier this year. May she lay them to rest in peace, and find some for herself.
So very sad. However i'm glad the mother has a chance to finally get some peace from this nightmare. As I recall we had some lengthy threads concerning this story.
Some details on the case, from a 2003 CNN report:
Manuel Gehring, 44, is charged with "purposely taking the lives" of his children Sarah, 14, and Philip, 11, with a gun, prosecutors said.
The bodies of the children have not been found.
[Gehring killed himself in jail, and police now believe
the bodies of his kids have been found]
Gehring, who was arrested in California July 10 and is being returned to New Hampshire in the custody of Concord police, was indicted on Friday, Heed said. The Boston Globe reported last week that a gun was found in the van when drove back from New Hampshire.
On the day the two children were last seen, witnesses reported Gehring was having a loud argument with his daughter at a fireworks display. Gehring turned up six days later in Gilroy, California, without his children.

The children's birth mother is Teresa A. Knight. The Lawrence (MA) Eagle-Tribune reported at the time:
"Theresa A. Knight of Hillsboro (NH) sought police help the night of July 6, about eight hours after she arrived at Gehring's home to pick up Philip and take him to summer camp.
"She told police that a "very agitated and angry" Gehring had told her he would not follow the new custody order they agreed to June 24. Gehring's friends say he was happy about the new arrangement, which had the two siblings living together and both attending Concord schools while splitting time between their parents
"Several people reported seeing Gehring in a loud confrontation with his daughter at the July 4 fireworks event, an argument sparked when she met up with her father late after watching the fireworks with her boyfriend.
Six days later, Gehring was arrested some 3,200 miles away in Gilroy, Calif., charged of interfering with custody"
Manuel Gehring : what the hell kind of name is that?
>>Manuel Gehring : what the hell kind of name is that?
one report from a couple years back says "Gehring, a native of Nicaragua who was adopted by an American family and raised in this country..."
What beautiful children, in Heaven with their creator. I thought when I saw the headline that it was the two children from KCMO who's father has so far (I think) refused to tell authorities where they are.
