Fresh off of a critically-successful series of acoustic/bluegrass themed albums, Dollys upcoming album Those Were The Days takes Dolly in a more contemporary direction, while keeping some of the bluegrass flavors of her past few albums.
The album begins with its title track, the Mary Hopkin classic Those Were The Days, which features a cast of Grand Ole Opry legends adding nostalgia and fun. The voices of Porter Wagoner, George Jones, and Jeannie Seely are clearly heard singing along with Dolly during select parts of the song, including a gang sing on the chorus. However the vocal contributions from Hopkin and the Moscow Circus seem to distract from the song rather than adding to it.

She also has Cat Stevens cutting a track with her on this album.
I guess after doing "For God and Country"--a patriotic-themed album-- a couple years ago, Dolly feels the need to "reach out" to the aging leftwing side of the baby boomer generation.
Maybe I'm being too cynical?
tell me what you really think.
Oh yeah, and CMT is playing the "Imagine" video from Dolly on their "Top 20" countdown this week. At the CMAs Dolly did the song with Elton John.
Imagine that
Imagine.... the most over-hyped over-rated sentimental tosh ever written. Can't understand it's popularity - does anyone even listen to the third-grade peace-love-kumbaya BS?
How disappointing.
One of my favorite songs by her is Shine. I love the lyrics.
Collective Soul ( and no, I don't expect many to know this band) did a good remake of "Shine" from their first album.
Damn! I was hoping for 'Soul Finger' by the Bar-Kays!
I know Collective Soul!
Worst....song.....ever.....
You bet! Tree-huggers love that crap.
The Dog: "Good grief. I'm so outta here."
Correction by me: "Shine" is off their second self titled CD.
I never liked it. Never liked Lennon or the Beatles. I always thought I was some sort of freak, cause everyone else seemed(s)to like them, or even worship them
This has always been a mystery to me.
This CD will tank
I'm confused. Who wrote "Shine"? Dolly Parton, or the Collective Soul guys?
I love Collective Soul's version. Never heard Dolly's.
Never mind. I Googled. It was Ed Rollins of CS. I thought they did it first.
I saw her sing live on t.v. a couple times.
