First baseman Paul Konerko and the White Sox agreed to a five-year, $60 million deal on Wednesday.
Konerko had other offers. He had more money out there. He could have tied himself up through 2011 if he'd really wanted to play in an East Coast city with a prominent aquarium.
"But the story here," his agent, Craig Landis, told ESPN.com, "was that Paul just wanted to go back to the White Sox."

With the Rowand-Thome trade, I was worried that the Sox were preparing to let Konerko go. This is a big relief. Will they put Podsednik in Center Field now?
This is my first thread here on FR, so please let me know if I screwed something up.
Us White Sox fans think this thread looks great!
This thread is screaming your name at me.
I'm glad they resigned Konerko. I think it's going to be a great battle between Cleveland and Chicago next year, without Konerko though I think Cleveland would clearly have had the advantage.
LOL!
Thanks
I think Mike Herschberger played CenterField when I was a kid!
Good news for hite Sox, bad for Red Sox. I was hoping we'd sign him.
Can you ping the Chicagoland freepers for me?
Thanks
You don't have anything to worry about; here on FR, if you mess something up you're sure to hear about it . . . ;-)
Happy to see Konerko staying with the Southsiders.
How long ago was that?
That would have been shortly after their last World Series appearance! By the way, do most Sox fans in Chicago know that they established an all time attendance record for a major league baseball game during the '59 WS that still stands?
Guinnessman isn't a Brewers fan? Ok that was lame. Sorry.
That seems to be the conventional wisdom but the Sox have some options since Bryan Anderson can play center as well as Willie Harris.
This is great news and cannot please the rest of the division.
You did good too.
That's all right.
If I was a Brewer's fan, I'd be Millerman :)
Actually, I grew up on the South Side of Chicago, where the greatest beverage known to mankind is on tap in most bars.
the only thing you screwed up is that you will have a tough time posting a better thread ;)
man - don't see a lot of Old Style fans around here....
Chicagoland ping per guinnessman
