NASHUA MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SELLING COUNTERFEIT IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENTS

NASHUA, NH-Matthew J. Etre, acting special agent-in-charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and United States Attorney Tom Colantuono announced that Aderci Dasilva, 35, pleaded guilty yesterday in U.S. District Court in Concord to selling counterfeit identification documents.

Dasilva, who lived in Nashua, pleaded guilty to eight counts of selling counterfeit resident alien cards, also known as “green cards,” and counterfeit social security cards.

ICE agents arrested Dasilva and a second individual, Gilmar Miranda on July 28, 2005.

In the course of an undercover investigation conducted with ICE agents, both Miranda and Dasilva sold counterfeit alien registration cards and social security cards. Miranda pleaded guilty on Oct. 17, 2005.

“ICE places a high priority on investigating identity fraud and document fraud cases,” said Etre. Etre. “Counterfeit documents create the illusion of legitimacy and allow people to hide in plain sight. ICE is committed to shutting down enterprises that seek to compromise the security of our nation, and is committed to restoring integrity to the immigration system.”

A sentencing hearing for each Dasilva and Miranda is scheduled for Jan. 24, 2006. Both face a maximum possible sentence of 15 years' imprisonment and a maximum possible fine of $250,000. The court ordered that both Dasilva and Miranda be detained until their sentencing hearings.

This case is being investigated by ICE under the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Social Security Administration. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark S. Zuckerman.

No mention as to whether or not this pair were citizens, legal immigrants or illegals. My money is on illegal status. They are just good hearted people trying to support their families by committing the document fraud that Americans won't do.

They are identified as New Hampshire Men. That means they were US citizens.

To me, the meaning is very fuzzy. As far as I am concerned it just means that these folks were living in Nashua and tells me nothing about their citizenship or immigration status. I see these types of reports using very similar language all the time and it often turns out the criminals are also illegals. The media hates to include that detail so they omit it or give us some fuzzy language that implies they are citizens. They could have said Brazilians and that would have been equally fuzzy but implied the opposite as they could in fact be Brazilians living here as legal immigrants or naturalized citizens. Unless they actually say so, we can't know and can only speculate. My speculation was based on the statistical fact that illegal immigrants are far more likely to be involved in criminal activity, and particularly immigration related criminal activity, then citizens.

I agree it is a vague reference. The only reason I'm saying they were citizens is from the consistency of their verbiage of the ICE press releases. I've been on their newsletter list for a while.
