LOL!! No ducking necessary. I cut my teeth on Solaris and Sun/OS. Still have a soft spot for Sun Micro.

You need to duck after that one. NOBODY in their right mind should prefer any proprietary UNIX to LINUX. Bugs linger for years in proprietary UNIX systems. They get killed out in the first three weeks after a new LINUX release. That's because tens of millions of people use LINUX and just a couple of leftover losers here and there still use Solaris, Iris, HPUX and the like.

what you say was once true, but not any more. the linux 2.6 kernel is really awesome w/ SMP, perhaps not doing quite a well with huge numbers of processors, but large clusters of machines each running 2 to 4 processors make the 32 processor computers very much obsolete.

Linux on Opterons rule these days, and that is what the Wall Street guys are buying to replace their N processor Solaris boxes...

Why duck, it's true. Solaris with ZFS and zones makes the rest look like buggy whips. When Nexenta makes it to final, the war will be over. The daily bombardment of viruses and crap has taken it's toll, better to switch than fight.

M$ is losing their grip, they announced that the office file formats will go open source next year, can media player be far behind?
