SourceForge project of the week (This one is not for the faint of heart)

Ok so lets say you have some time to kill and want to try something new. Maybe youre strictly a Windows user and feel lfet out of the flame wars that erupt between KDE and Gnome people about which interface is better... Well here is your chance to start up flame wars about which windows interface is better...

Emerge Desktop is an alternate shell for Windows 2000 and XP. you don't need it :-) Unless you like to customize your desktop and have a lighter interface. This is not a new feature introduced by Emerge Desktop. There are plenty of alternate shells for Windows (since Windows 3.x) and for Linux. The main difference between Emerge Desktop and other alternate Windows 2000/XP shells is the modularity (see next answer).

If I wanted to put that much work into it, I'd go with Linux. Windows is already so bloated, who would want to add another layer on top?

Stardock's Desktop X and Window Blinds offer a whole lot more. Here's over a 1,000 complete UI's for Desktop X, 3,000 themes for Window Blinds, etc:

Course if you're against ever paying for anything, and want everything for free, beggars can't be as choosy.

I like the idea, but I've got a couple of questions:

First, is there any way to transfer the look and feel of Linux (say, KDE, GNOME, XFCE) to WinXP?

Second, any idea if there's a port of Konqueror for XP? I know there's Cygwin, but I'm not gung-ho about using it if I don't have to.

Hysterical! You really need a new English teacher/translator or whatever it is you're using. No problems here, those of us that can afford premium software products can afford plenty of RAM too. If that's not an option for you I guess you can monkey around with this some more. Just remember its limited capability and audience, you might want to clarify those things from the beginning.

Personally I prefer KDE over gnome.  But for easy navigation and a better look and feel, I would choose Windows explorer over either one.

Well, maybe if you dropped it, kicked it into a wall and set it on fire it would begin to resemble it.  =)

I can't even imagine using Linux without FireFox and haven't tried Konquerer on Windows, it's a horrible browser and bad enough on Linux, why incoporate it into Windows?  FireFox works great on Win & Linux.

Why must you be so insulting? I have done nothing but ask questions and posted something here for the benefit of all.. But if making fun of people and trying snob appeal make you feel better I guess I feel kinda sorry for you..

" Well, maybe if you dropped it, kicked it into a wall and set it on fire it would begin to resemble it. =)"

Is there an actually logical point to that statement that even gibes with any version of reality?

If you've ever used the OSX desktop, it leaves anythign MS has designed in the dust.

Have to agree with you on this point.  The personal insults are getting too much to read.  It's one of the reasons I've been spending very little time on these threads over the last month or so.  It 's the same old ranting and raving.  It's one thing to do it with a friendly sense of humor, but when it gets personal, I usually leave.

Too bad, because m3wbi3 posts some very interesting articles and they just get lost in the fighting.
