Houston Chronicle Website "Upgrade" appears to Deny Service (vanity)
Houston Chronicle ^ | my vain self

Any other Chronicle viewers notices the long download times off the pages of the Houston Chronicle. They "upgrade" there website this week, and it appears they have wiped themselves out.

TOPICS: Computers/Internet; Weird Stuff
KEYWORDS:
Is anyone else seeing this? The pages are very slow loading. I think the adds and other stuff are killing them. I used them as my homepage till this week. This could prove disasterous for a paper already losing subscribers.

Mine loaded in a reasonable amount seconds - 3 or 4 seconds.

I just went there and it loaded pretty fast. I do, however, like the old website layout better. I guess I just need to get used to where everything is now. Off topic: In today's online edition I saw that Houston now has red light cameras. Guess the city will get a lot of revenue from those at $75+ per ticket.

I don't much care for the new format, it takes too long to load.

The site is slow, but it does eventually come up.

It came right up for me, but I have T1 and not dial-up or DSL.

Doh! I forgot that detail!

I'm getting load times anywhere from 10 seconds to 1 minute, I have DSL. It is only the chronicle where I have this problem, and only starting with their "new" pages. At times I have seen the advertising frames come up with "page not found".

It loaded a little slower than usual for me too... but its a new format, so maybe the comical hasnt worked out all the bugs yet, or maybe it just "one of those things" and will clear up later.

I about had my clock cleaned last night by a Scion driver who ran a red light (LONG after it had changed).

Those cameras will do nothing to prevent such an accident. It'll only serve to make some revenue for the city off of it.

A camera is no replacement for a police officer.

Can't wait until people making right turns on red and people with different cars/plates start getting tickets.
