This forum is to help us get through the offseason by posting news, silly season rumors and anything else devoted to Nascar.
But, a very special one and probably one of the last few taken of him.
Thank you!
Nascar misses him and Jr does too. I know he turns to DJ, Pops and some of the older drivers now, but it's not the same.
As for Happy vs Crash as the Team Red Bull driver (that's the third Toyota team according to Jayski), I'd have to say that Harvick will go first. Even though Gordon would benefit more from the Toyota factory support, he seems quite loyal to GM (why else would he purpose-build a Hummer for the Dakar rally?).
I'll have a lot longer reaction tomorrow; I'm too tired to post it tonight.
Weird, I mused, while chalking it up to strange bedfellows and bizarre coincidence.
But then
along came the Nextel Media Tour.
It was here that I learned that O. Bruton Smith, robber baron and capitalist of great magnitude, was in favor of national health care. He said on Tuesday that the government ought to provide health coverage for all workers. Whats next? Greenpeace comes out for oil drilling in the Everglades? Karl Rove joins the ACLU? Lex Luthor studies at the feet of the Dalai Lama?
Perhaps I was hallucinating as I sat in the back of the Lowes Motor Speedway media center. I mean, I was still depressed after hearing Dale Jarrett suggest earlier in the day that my friends in the media were responsible for Ford laying off 30,000 workers? Oh, the shame! By the time I got to LMS, I was thinking of sitting at the feet of the Dalai Lama myself. When I heard Humpy Wheeler invent the word prolifigate, I had begun to think that someone had slipped a mickey in my iced tea.
But have no fear. Following Brother Jarretts advice, I plan to heap praise upon praise on all the fine new Fusions coming out of the plant in Hermosillo, Mexico. Meanwhile, Ill reserve harsh judgments for the guttersnipes building Toyota Camrys in Georgetown, Ky. That way maybe Ford can reopen that Mexican plant included in its recent list of closings.
Because its all my fault. Im in the media.
Tony Stewarts visiting President Bush, and that couldnt possibly hurt. Brian France recently said some things that actually made sense, though, in fairness, I was probably preoccupied with his hand gestures, which can have sort of a hypnotic effect. NASCARs Car of Tomorrow looks like a front-engined version of a Grand American sports prototype, even if curmudgeonly Jack Roush still insists its a work in process.
Its not just NASCAR. I could handle that. Something just strikes me as weird when there are gay cowboy flicks at the Cineplex, the best rapper is white, and the best golfer is black and the tallest guy in the NBA is Chinese.
I cant roll with the flow. I cant chill. My life would be so much easier if I just became a public-relations-conscious writer. All I need to do is write good things. Then Id get along beautifully with everyone, particularly athletes with plenty of money, Id stay permanently in NASCARs good graces, and all the people reading my columns would tumble off in a dreamless sleep somewhere shortly after the halfway point.
Anyone still reading? Then I guess Ive failed yet again.
Also from the Lowes website as linked above....Humpy taming a mean track.
A $3 million resurfacing project underway at Lowe's Motor Speedway will include work in the turns of the 1.5-mile oval that officials say will give the 46-year-old track an "attitude adjustment."
Work started Jan. 16 and will be completed prior to the NASCAR NEXTEL All-Star Challenge on Saturday night, May 20, and the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday evening, May 28.
"We are going to remold the track to take some of the meaness out of it," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "This is one of the meanest tracks on the NEXTEL Cup circuit and by that I mean it can bite you when you least expect it.
949...
We're in the presence of greatness :o)
How many times is this line going to be pledgurized by incompetent writers? Gees, get an original ideal already.
Oh, it's a great line, but been around the block a few times.
Insanity shows itself in many ways. It's not hard to discern on FR...
And they still get it wrong, they AIN'T cowboys!
Dale Earnhardt Jr. wants to drive the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress. Expects to, even.
It has been discussed.
"I really think that'll happen," Earnhardt said, leaned back easily in a folding chair on the JR Motorsports shop floor. "I've informally talked to Richard, just so he knew I wanted to do that."
Easy, Junior Nation, easy... Before you run off and make the 6.7 commercial reality -- "HE CHANGED HIS NUMBERRRR!!" -- relax. Take a deep breath. It'll be a while.
"I'll drive the No. 3 car toward the end of my career if I've done what I wanted to do at DEI, and that's win championships and win races," Earnhardt said. "And I'll stick around as long as it takes to do it."

Well, it is a lot easier to change an 8 into a 3, than an 8 into a 6.7.
I just talked to my FRiends over at the weather channel and I think I have made arrangements for our current storm take the South Pass into Texas so y'all be good ya hear...
We will be waiting patiently and on our best behavior.
Last weekend we had two days of drizzle, totaled out with a half inch. :)
We had .7 until 6 this morning.May get 1 inch more by tomorrow morning.
Yes, it does get old...
So does the dry, but we don't bitch because we know we may get your weather or worse, a hurricane.
It really is drizzling here. I guess it pays to know people in high places. :)
