This forum is to help us get through the offseason by posting news, silly season rumors and anything else devoted to Nascar.

the wifes normally dormant suzy homemaker genetic marker activated yesterday and she has terminally infected the grandaughter and the two of them have sofar baked, punkin, apple and cherry pies, they made both nutted and non versions of fudge and devinity.
Tommorrow the rest will explode including the yams, taters, home baked bread and mini corn bread muffins
I will be hiding quietly out of the path of travel darting into the kitchen briefly at strategicly timed intervals for liquid envibement or to do duties as delegated by the boss.
We will include y'all in our thoughts and prayers of thanks of the day...
WoW! You must have a engine lift in the kitchen to move that monster. Did you weld 2 roasting pans together to hold that...umm...er Turkey?
Have a great day Pete and I hope the rest of your family is well...
Biffle 6 wins... Gordon 4 wins and he made more... hmmmm
How do you justify the fact that Gordon made $1,125,510 more than him?
Gordon's wins -
Daytona 500 - $1,497,150 (by far the richest purse of the year; Mike Wallace, the driver who received the least amount of money, got more than several winning drivers in other races)
Advance Auto Parts 500 - $186,051
Aaron's 499 - $365,116
Subway 500 - $194,926
Biffle's wins -
Auto Club 500 - $288,650
Samsung/RadioShack 500 - $540,250 (the third-richest race in Nextel Cup; the Brickyard 400 was the 2nd-richest race at $554,661 going to winner Tony Stewart)
Dodge Charget 500 - $300,575
Spring MBNA RacePoints 400 - $282,500
Batman Begins 400 - $171,075
Ford 400 - $308,675
Edwards' wins -
Golden Corral 500 - $165,450
Pocono 500 - $196,150
Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 - $314,700
Dickies 500 - $440,550 (the richest race in the Chase)
I got invited over to mom's and ended up cooking about everything but the taters. Then I washed all the dishes. LOL. It was good to be with family. My back hurts. Don't know how the womenfolk do that every day.
THX for da ping. Had a great turkey day. Went up in the mountains for our annual gig where 8-10 of us hunt a little quail, make a rockring fire and cook venison, deer sausage, eggs, bacon and pan fried toast. Have a good time telling stories, then rush home to have a turkey dinner.
AFTER...(Burp!)
That being said, if you look at the week-to-week payoffs, there's some weird formula that NASCAR used to pay drivers. The vets, the "stars", and the past champs do get more money for comparably similar performances than do the rookies, no-names, and ne'er-do-wells. For example (totally off-the-cuff), if Tony Stewart finishes, say 12th in any race next year, he'll probably bring home as much as anybody in the top 5 if they're all 1st-3rd year drivers. I personally think it's part of rewarding the stars for the ticket sales, but I've NEVER heard about the practice being openly discussed.
My First Wife said she was "retiring" in 4 years when she turns 70. We were later talking to a fiend and he said they were having dinner with his 83 year old mother who was doing the cooking...
That's a thing of beauty.
Meanwhile, from my local paper via Jayski, SWimmer is hoping to double-dip in Cup and the Busch series next year even if he has to take rides with field-fillers (well, BDR's been a field-filler since Ward Burton left :-)
There are also other monetary awards, some given to charities, that the sponsors award their drivers. Whether the driver keeps it, or gives it away, it still adds to their total winnings.
I wanna drive the Tide ride!
LOL, I'll take a field filler!
Tony Stewart last night on Letterman!! "You have to remember, we have Nascar as a sanctioning body. The rules can change at any time for any or no reason"
That was one good looking bird! Looks like you and yours had a good day!
Interesting interview with Ricky Rudd on Nascar today.
Ricky Rudd...this is just an excerpt:
Your thoughts on the Chase format?
It's not bad. It's different. All attention and media is put toward that effort after the first 26 races, where the rest of the guys don't exist. If I'm a sponsor spending money for 36 races, I'd feel cheated.
I'd say we'll sponsor you for 26 races, and if you make the cut we'll pay the for the other 10. If not we'll stop funding at 26 races. That's some of the potential negative consequences I see coming. There are positives, too, though. It keeps fan interest right up to the end.
There are a lot of things right about the sport. One of the things that's wrong now is it seems that with the tremendous money from TV, NASCAR no longer controls the sport like they once did. It's like a TV series, like a Desperate Housewives or whatever. That's not all bad, but what happens if it's not working anymore? TV creates the stars now.
