FYI Ping......

NBC will have the Nascar year in review on today at 3pm ET.

They could only spare one hour from their busy schedule but it's better than nothing.

70 Days until the 500 and counting.

Thanks for the ping. NBC gave it an hour - minus 25 minutes of commercials. :-)

70 days, geeesch.

I have an idea. There should be a winter rookie league. Maybe 24-30 cars. The best rookies get a ride for next year, either Bush or Nextel rides.

Mid Ohio SCCA racing is on Speed TV. There is a group of kids and their teacher, Larry Hansen racing in GT3 later. They finished 6th. Larry has been running this team out of Eureka High School for several years and they do very well in a Nissan 200sx. My grandson may be involved next year...

The winner is in the Times-Standard link. Green Acres has won for the past 4 or five years...

Nascar Christmas.....

Once again, veteran driver Morgan Shepherd plans a pilgrimage to the mountains of Southwestern Virginia to assist those in need.

Just this week Speedway Motorsports chief Bruton Smith presented a check for $505,728 to the Charlotte-area wing of Speedway Childrens Charities, a program he started in 1984 that now benefits 68 non-profit organizations. Overall, Smith has raised $15 million to fund projects ranging from summer camps for kids with cancer to mentoring children who have a parent away from home in the Armed Services.

And on Tuesday night (Dec. 13) the 16th Annual Stocks For Tots endeavor is scheduled at Lakeside Park in Mooresville, N.C., providing fans a chance to meet and get autographs from drivers and others involved in racing.

As always, the price of admission is either a cash donation or contribution of a new, unwrapped toy.

Don Miller of Penske Racing South founded "Tots" as a means of aiding abused and needy children. Through the years approximately $250,000 has been raised and 30,000 Christmas toys presented to kids in a five-county area of North Carolina.

Stocks For Tots helps fund Stop Child Abuse Now, or SCAN.

The program has proven increasingly popular among fans. Approximately 5,000 attended in 2004, some standing outside for 16 hours in frigid weather for a chance to get the signature of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. A few drove to Mooresville from as far away as Iowa and New Hampshire.

All-star lineups of drivers, both past and present, are scheduled to participate this time. Included are Bobby Allison, Matt Kenseth, Rex White and Rusty Wallace, all former champions of NASCAR's top series; and major race winners Buddy Baker, Ernie Irvan, Greg Biffle, Ken Schrader, Kurth and Kyle Busch, Morgan Shepherd and Ryan Newman.

NASCAR Truck Series champion Ted Musgrave also will take part, along with drag racing stars Doug Herbert and Greg Anderson.

A tip for fans planning to attend: Dress warm, for the lines likely will be long and you'll be outside much of the time.

And be as generous as possible with your contributions of cash and toys. Like Benny Parsons back in the '70s, you can make a needy kid's eyes sparkle with joy at Christmas.

Another New Cup Team? not much info on this team, but their site states: The Premier Motorsports is expanding to the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series in 2006. The team looks to be based in Kentucky and shows a car #85. No drivers listed and most of the site states 'coming soon'.(thepremiermotorsports.com.(12-13-2005)

The lights of Las Vegas will shine on the NASCAR Busch Series in 2006. A night-time finish for the 10th running of the Sam’s Town 300 highlights the event schedule for the 2006 NASCAR Weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. On Monday, speedway officials announced starting times for races and qualifying sessions for the March 10-12 event. The most significant changes from previous years involve the Sam’s Town 300. For the first time at LVMS, Busch cars will qualify and race on the same day. Time trials for the Sam’s Town 300 are set for 12:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 and the race will begin at 3:20 p.m. The late start of the Busch race should guarantee a finish under the lights. Ping to the Busch Series Banquet tonight on TNT at midnight ET. [much better than what was on last night at midnight]

Article following Busch banquet 12-9...

LAKE BUENA VISTA -- Martin Truex wears his emperor's clothes grudgingly. You could sense the uneasiness as he stepped into a tuxedo and walked onto the banquet stage as the Busch Series champion to accept enough trophies to fill a shopping cart.

As the parade of NASCAR sponsors shook hands with Truex on Saturday night at the Portofino Bay Hotel adjacent to Universal Studios, Truex couldn't wait to get the heck out of the penguin wear.

Within the next few weeks, he will be in camouflage fatigues to hunt deer in Texas, and then in cold gear for snowboarding with buddies in Colorado.

snip~~}

Earnhardt and Truex remain close friends. Driving as teammates should be fluid, and maybe the transition will be as smooth as the days Earnhardt and Waltrip worked so well together on restrictor-plate tracks.

They also see a lot more of each other than anybody else along pit road: Earnhardt is Truex's landlord. Truex rents a home on the property Earnhardt owns in North Carolina.

"The rent is cheap, man," Truex said. "He doesn't knock when he visits. He just walks in and sits on my couch." LINK
