This forum is to help us get through the offseason by posting news, silly season rumors and anything else devoted to Nascar.
The Shootout entry list is up. With Terry Labonte deciding not to enter (he won the Shootout in 1985) and Rusty Wallace retired (he won the Shootout in 1998), we have 21 drivers; 17 qualified by winning a pole in 2005, 4 qualified by winning the Shootout in a previous year and (new for 2006) running the previous season (which eliminates the likes of Geoffrey Bodine):
#01 - Joe Nemechek (won the pole at the 2nd Michigan race)
#5 - Kyle Busch (won the pole at the spring California race)
#6 - Mark Martin (won the Shootout in 1999)
#8 - Dale Earnhardt Jr (won the Shootout in 2003)
#9 - Kasey Kahne (won the pole at the Darlington and spring Richmond races)
#10 - Scott Riggs (won the pole at the spring Martinsville race)
#11 - Denny Hamlin (won the pole at the fall Phoenix race)
#12 - Ryan Newman (won the pole at the Vegas, both Atlanta, both Texas, spring Charlotte, first Michigan and fall Dover races)
#17 - Matt Kenseth (won the pole at the summer Bristol and Kansas races)
#20 - Tony Stewart (won the pole at the summer Daytona, fall Loudon, and fall Martinsville races; also won the Shootout in 2001 and 2002; his rain-out pole at Watkins Glen doesn't count)
#21 - Ken Schrader (won the Shootout in 1989 and 1990)
#24 - Jeff Gordon (won the pole at the spring Phoenix and Sonoma races; also won the Shootout in 1994 and 1997)
#25 - Brian Vickers (won the pole at the summer Loudon race)
#26 - Jamie McMurray (won the pole at the second Pocono race - it's the driver, not the team)
#29 - Kevin Harvick (won the pole at the spring Talledega and fall Richmond races)

#38 - Elliott Sadler (won the pole at the spring Bristol, Indy, fall Talledega and fall Charlotte races)
#48 - Jimmie Johnson (won the pole at the Chicago race; also won the Shootout in 2005; his rain-out pole at the first Dover race does not count)
#55 - Michael Waltrip (won the pole at the first Pocono race)
#88 - Dale Jarrett (won the pole at the spring Daytona race, also won the Shootout in 1996, 2000 and 2004)
#99 - Carl Edwards (won the pole at the summer California and Homestead races)
They've got a pretty stout racecar. They've been on top of all the practice charts. Today is the first day at the track. They are pumped!!

Alrighty, we had Mick for the Super Bowl think Bon Jovi for the 500. The only song I like of theirs is It's My Life.

A woman whose husband was among 10 people killed in the 2004 Hendrick Motorsports plane crash has filed a lawsuit against the racing company and two pilots' estates.
The lawsuit, filed by Randy Dorton's widow Dianne Dorton, was first reported by WCNC, the Observer's news partner. The suit claims that Hendrick Motorsports and the pilots were negligent in allowing the plane to fly to and try to land in Martinsville, Va., on Oct. 24, 2004.
The plane crashed into Bull Mountain, about seven miles from the airport. All 10 people on board died.
Randy Dorton was head of Hendrick Motorsports' engine program and lived in Lincoln County. Dianne Dorton still lives in the county and filed the lawsuit there in December.
In addition to negligence by Hendrick Motorsports and the pilots, Richard Tracy and Elizabeth Morrison, the lawsuit alleges that the company and pilots engaged in "willful, wanton and/or reckless" conduct related to the Oct. 24 flight.
The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages of more than $10,000 from the defendants, as well as punitive damages from Hendrick Motorsports.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) - Flight crew errors probably caused a 2004 Hendrick Motorsports plane crash that killed 10 people with ties to one of NASCAR's top racing families, the National Transportation Safety Board said Tuesday.
The crew improperly read instruments and missed a landing approach to Blue Ridge Airport in Martinsville, Va., the NTSB said in a report synopsis e-mailed to The Associated Press. The Beech King Air 200 crashed into fog-shrouded Bull Mountain in the foothills of the Appalachians on Oct. 24, 2004.
The crash killed the son, brother and two nieces of Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick.
"Contributing to the cause of the accident was the flight crew's failure to use all available navigational aids to confirm and monitor the airplane's position during the approach," NTSB said.
NTSB investigators said that the crew did not follow proper procedure in executing its approach to the airport and their actions following the missed approach.
NTSB spokesman Terry Williams said because the plane did not have cockpit voice recorder, it was "very difficult to tell what all was going on in the aircraft."
Williams said there was no indication of faulty instruments.
The final NTSB report will not be published for another three to four weeks.
Hendrick did not join the flight from Concord, N.C., to a race at Martinsville Speedway because he wasn't feeling well.

NASCAR Star Carl Edwards Set to Appear on Fox's "24"
Chatsworth, Calif. (February 6, 2006) - Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion, traveled to Chatsworth, Calif. to appear in his first role in a primetime drama. Edwards, who was in town to promote the upcoming race at California Speedway on February 26, took part in the filming of FOX's hit show "24" that is set to air Monday, April 3 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT). This wasn't Edwards' first foray into acting as he made a guest appearance as himself on the hit soap opera "The Guiding Light" back in October of 2005.
