STRUM MAN INDICTED FOR POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
MADISON, Wis. - A Wisconsin man was indicted by a federal grand jury here yesterday for possessing child pornography, following an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
James Beier, 30, of the 300-block of Birch St., Strum, Wis., was indicted in the Western District of Wisconsin for possessing a DVD containing a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct. If convicted, Beier faces up to10 years in prison.
According to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Madison Nov. 7, the DVD was seized following the execution of a federal search warrant at Beier's residence the same day. Beier made an initial appearance in federal court in Madison, and was ordered held in custody pending an arraignment.
ICE was assisted in the investigation by: the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation; Strum Police Department; Osseo Police Department; and Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Przybylinski Finn is prosecuting the case.
The public is advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
This case is part of ICE's nationwide initiative known as Operation Predator. Operation Predator protects children from sexual predators, including those who travel across continents to have sex with minors. Internet child pornographers and criminal alien sex offenders and child traffickers are also included under this initiative. Since Operation Predator was launched in July 2003, ICE has arrested more than 6,500 individuals nationwide.
