Some time ago I was in Home Depot and got upset about the dumb self checkout things they had put in. I didn't like them and neither did anyone else in the store. So, typicallly, I compained to their home office. I got a call from Kenneth G. Langone. He seemed like a nice guy. I told him that nobody liked the damn self checkout things. He gave me all sorts of study data about how customers up north liked them and whatnot. I told them I was in Texas and we hate the damn things. I told him eventually they would have to take the things out of the store. And eventually they did.

Mr. Langone seemed like a real nice guy. He has a Italian/New York kind of accent and was obviously real smart. He said they valued their customers and that he sure hoped I'd go back to Home Depot and shop again and if I ever had any problems to call him back.

I can see that Home Depot did something dumb here with this pencil thing but that happens sometimes. All I can say is that I liked this guy that called me one day just to say he'd like me to keep going to Home Deport. It was some time later as I was reading something related to business matters did I run across the name Kenneth G. Langone again and realize just who called me that day.
