Currently 14-10 5 minutes left in 2nd Quarter. Fresno State marching down the field preparing to score again
Best wishes!
Yeah, we're just another team on the Trojans' schedule. Ask USC and Oregon what they think of that.
Gee, it would have been real interesting if we were in the Pac-10 this year and played Oregon and USC at HOME, now wouldn't it? What would have happened then?
LOL,
You know by now that I go to a lot of college ball and I rarely say anything negative about a teams fan's. We all love our teams for various reasons.
The one exception I make to that comment is UCLA fans and their treatment of USC fans.
UCLA fans seem to have a much higher A-hole contingent then most schools. Sure USC has their share, but we do not walk around in Tee shirt that blatantly display bestiality of our mascot (I'd say I see 15-20 of these at any given game).
Honestly, I have a chippiness that any rival school's fans would have. I'm not bitter at all. I couldn't be prouder of my alma mater. We just haven't reached the level that we want to be. People may laugh, but we want a national championship for our team. I think if you ask old Laker fans what it was like before 1985, every time the Lakers faced the Celtics for the championship, you'd know what I'm talking about.
I actually meant the last 100 years. I definitely believe this Trojan team is probably that good. How many teams have had two Heisman candidates on the same team for THREE years! There have been no college team to win three championships in a row - that's all that needs to be said.

...Oregon and USC at HOME, now wouldn't it? What would have happened then?
Well, for starters, both teams would have taken a hit at the gate.
Try visiting sometime. BTW how much does Autzen hold? [mock/sarcasm]
Well, at $60.00 a ticket and let's say $15.00 per fan in concessions, it holds, $972,675.00 of additional revenue (not including the luxury boxes).
BTW, I am pulling your leg on this one. I have personally been saying for years that Fresno state should be considered for admission to the Pac 10. I think one strike against then is that currently the Pac 10 has such a perfect alignment in terms of natural rivalries:
UW vs WSU
UO vs. OSU
Cal vs. Stanford
USC vs. UCLA
UA vs. ASU
Fresno would have no natural rival to come in with it. I know it is a minor point, but Fresno would have to bring a second team along with it. Who would you suggest?
The best choice I can think of would be Hawaii, but they are too weak in many areas.
"Yeah, we're just another team on the Trojans' schedule. Ask USC and Oregon what they think about that."
Well, Oregon played a close game at Houston early in the year, pulling away late to win by 14. They lost to USC after leading at halftime. They had a tough game at ASU before winning by 14. They had a tough game at Arizona, winning by 7. They had a tough game against Cal, winning in overtime by 7, and they had a tough game at Washington State, winning by 3.
USC was behind at Oregon at halftime, before routing them in the second half. They had a tough game at Arizona State, down by 18 at half before winning by 10. They had a tough game at Notre Dame, winning by 3. They had a tough game at home against Arizona, where Arizona was within a touchdown in the 4th quarter, before SC scored a couple late. And they still have to play UCLA in two weeks, who is 9-1 with the sixth best scoring offense in the country.
So yeah, you guys really were just another game on their schedules. Every year, the Pac-10 teams play a bunch of close games with each other. And as I said in an earlier post to you, Fresno State is a Pac-10 caliber team, and an experienced one this year.
The teams that you mention Oregon playing are not Fresno State caliber -not even close. I know UCLA and Notre Dame are tough teams, but I believe Fresno would beat them, too. I know the schedule would be tougher, but we still would have ended up the number 2 team in the Pac-10 this year. Even the USC coach and players agree with that.
Well, all that is arguable, but my point is that a USC or Oregon or any top team in a given Pac-10 season playing a close game happens quite often each year. Check out Washington State's scores this year and look how close this supposed Pac-10 'doormat' was to having a nice season.
Since a Pac 11 isn't really a viable concept, Fresno would have to bring Hawaii or Boise State, neither of whom are really up to Pac 10 standards at present.
Honey, have you gone to work today, or have you been posting all day on Free Republic? :)
One more thing, Diamond. Now that you guys played these impressive games against Oregon and USC, make sure you kick somebody's ass in your bowl game!!!
Will do. But first we need to take care of business in conference with Nevada Reno and Louisiana Tech. Thanks for the support.
Well, there will probably be some letdown or 'bounce' from the effort expended Saturday night, but you guys will thump those guys once the adrenaline kicks in. Good luck to you. Hope you draw an SEC team. Would be beautiful.
However, the story from the Pac-10 is that Fresno State doesn't meet the Pac-10's so-called uppity academic standards. Somebody ought to tell them that the football program is high up the list on the academic list according to the NCAA's own standards - higher than many of the Pac-10 schools.
In reality, I think the Pac-10 will want to shut Fresno State out for the same reason they don't want to allow non-BCS schools in the good bowl games - money, money, money. They don't want to share money with non-BCS schools, and the Pac-10 doesn't want to split any money with Fresno State. I guarantee you we would expand our stadium to 65,000 to 75,000 if we were in the Pac-10, so that's not an excuse either.
Another real reason for not adding Fresno State is the Pac-10 teams don't want to share recruits. If Fresno State had Pac-10 afiliation, doors would be wide open for blue chip prospects like you wouldn't believe.
Unfortunately, I think one legitimate reason we are being excluded is the black eye our basketball program has given our overall school reputation. If it wasn't for that, we would have a much better standing from a character standpoint.
Thanks again. I'm just hoping for the best possible, highest ranked team. You know our motto: "Anyone, anytime, anywhere." Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to do any better than the Liberty Bowl and UTEP.
That sounds more like Bill Clinton's motto.
