Perhaps red roses are more appropriate after you are engaged, or married, as they denote love.

Would yellow and white daisys be ok?
Candy is acceptable, so are books, stationery, a picture frame, maybe a candy dish or pretty vase, a little stuffed animal, or tiny statue of a dog or cat.

If a guy gives a woman jewelry, then, on the next occasion she will expect something something more expensive, and her expectations keep escalating with each successive gift. (If you are a multi-zillionaire ignore the above advice.)
