In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
acumen \uh-KYOO-muhn; AK-yuh-muhn\, noun
Quickness of perception or discernment; shrewdness shown by keen insight.
Example sentence:
With Leo's rare combination of editorial acumen and business know-how, he might have become a publishing giant had he not permitted his drinking and gambling to hold him back.
--Ellis Amburn, Subterranean Kerouac: The Hidden Life of Jack Kerouac
The family store gave him a sharp business acumen -- acquired, he would say, by manning the cash register -- that few of his rivals possessed.
--David Schiff, "Who Was That Masked Composer?" [2]The Atlantic, January 2000
Etymology: Acumen comes from Latin acumen, "the sharp point of something; sharpness of understanding; cunning," from acuere, "to sharpen."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

If drank straight, I do not recommend this. It can also be used as ingredient to make other alcholic beverages, among other uses.

Or college kids looking for something easy and cheap to smuggle into cold Opening Day ballparks
sad. xsboy told me that the bball game between SU and TT is at MSG, which should be in SU's favor. but he also said that from what he read on the SU message board's online, most SU fans are going to ND for the football game. how the hell GOOFY is that? they are going to get their @$$es kicked by ND OUTSIDE with SNOW IN THE FORECAST, when at least there is a potential GAME to be had at MSG.
