In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
acumen \uh-KYOO-muhn; AK-yuh-muhn\, noun
Quickness of perception or discernment; shrewdness shown by keen insight.
Example sentence:
With Leo's rare combination of editorial acumen and business know-how, he might have become a publishing giant had he not permitted his drinking and gambling to hold him back.
--Ellis Amburn, Subterranean Kerouac: The Hidden Life of Jack Kerouac
The family store gave him a sharp business acumen -- acquired, he would say, by manning the cash register -- that few of his rivals possessed.
--David Schiff, "Who Was That Masked Composer?" [2]The Atlantic, January 2000
Etymology: Acumen comes from Latin acumen, "the sharp point of something; sharpness of understanding; cunning," from acuere, "to sharpen."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

QED, K is a multiple of 9.
(The great thing about the gixmo is that it moves the symbols every time you click it, so you think that you are getting a different answer.)
I would say you're correct!!!
You're such a peach :)
(proofread....LOL)
Lot of good to be said for Ben Nelson - I like hearing him talk
Hah!
Didn't notice the "moves" .....
Well I don't like Ben THAT much.... ;)
Trackback I was referring to the patton comment.
And as one in Illinois, Nelson seems like a conservative, because he is to the right of most of your Republicans.
(And I was hoping to hush up the other...)
Just saw a The Dog version of Monopoly at a kiosk in the mall. Made me think of xsbrownie.
I saw that comment of yours on the WV thread........what in the heck is/are "Krupnikas"????????
Krupnikas is a Lithuanian alcholic beverage. Basically, it is grain alchol, honey, and spices. It's around 100 proof when the cooking is done. It's good as a shot or in coffee.
Sounds yummy.
I have my annual gallon of homemade Kahluha aging in the back room. It should be ready just in time for gift giving!
It's yummy. I'll have to call my uncles soon and see where they get their Everclear, I am hoping it is not WVA. They are military so maybe it is sold on base.
Good luck in your hunt.
I think I can get it in Maryland or Delaware........how much of it do you need?
Not much, a couple of bottles.
I'll get back to you if my uncles can't find it. Thanks.
No problem.
