Misleading is right. John Kerry the Medal of Honor? Give me a break...Also how about the one who "loathed" the military?

Of course there is a list of republicans who served. But that is not the point.

BTW, When did Chris Matthews become a republican?

This list isn't worth discussion, but since it is here, notice that even with McCain they don't say he enlisted, or the years he served, like the do for the Democrats.

And they don't say that Bush signed up, or how long he served, just that he got out early -- but they say exactly what Kerry did, without saying he got out early.

But this is not a battle that we should even fight. We should reject the premise.

People who serve in the military should be honored FOR THEIR SERVICE. But having done so does not insulate you from criticism for subsequent acts. Chambliss didn't "question" Cleland's patriotism, he ran commercials truthfully pointing out Cleland's votes on the Homeland Security bill. A vote that Zell Miller said was unpatriotic, but heck, we can't control those crazy democrats.

BTW, this is a great point. The democrats always point to the 2002 election to say that Bush "questioned the patriotism" of Cleland by saying Cleland put the unions ahead of national security.

If that is "questioning patriotism", than it is clear that saying the President lied to get us into a war, putting his oil buddies ahead of 2000 dead soldiers, is most certainly "questioning HIS patriotism".

I don't think it is in either case, but the democrats insist they are not questioning anybody's patriotism.

Have you noticed how often the Democrats have to insist they are patriotic, even though nobody is saying they aren't? Guess they know the truth, and can't handle it.

BTW, if someone DOES come up with a good list, go ahead and put it in the comment at THIS blog:

Who Served

He picked up this list and posted it.

Ha, ha, ha....Don't think our military is dumb. Just send them this list and let them comment on it, ok? Consider the state and where it's from.

"I challenge some of those 'candy butts' to fly a fighter jet. Just once."

Yep. Especially the death trap the president flew.

It's misleading because it shows who DID serve on the Democratic side, and who DID NOT serve on the Republican side. I think if they wanted to show the full list from both, it would be more fair.

Still, the point is basically moot. Many of those museam pieces are draft era malcontents who stumbled their way into office. They clearly hold no special attachment to the present day military, a fact that is not lost on us.

Bill Clinton: Did not serve. Student deferments. Entered draft but received #311.

And I betcha Illinois State Sen. Howard W. Carroll voted for him in 1992 over George H.W. Bush (Distinguished Flying Cross) and in 1996 over Bob Dole (2 purple hearts and bronze star).

I'm trying to check on Senator Carroll.

There was a State Senator Howard W. Carroll, it looks like he retired in 2003 after serving 26 years in the senate. THere is also some reference to a State Senator Howard W. Carroll who was elected in 1992, but I think it is the same guy.

This list was put together before the election in 2004, so it's been around a while.

I'm trying to find out if the senator himself served. If not, and if I feel frisky, I will go to all the sites where I found the list that have comments sections, and simply say he "forgot" one, and add his name to the "did not serve" category.

There must be a list somewhere of all members of congress that served in the military. I note though that Democrats make a MUCH BIGGER deal out of their "military service", obviously to counteract their anti-military party affiliation. Republicans don't have to do this, they still support the military.

Hey, This is a "repeat" thread. Here's the original (from 2004):

Who Served? (Needs FReeper de-bunking)

Included this information:

Guess who else did not serve in the military? Former Illinois State Senator Howard W. Carroll (D-Chicago) who signed this letter. He has been either an elected or appointed politician his entire life. He graduated from Loyola University Law School in 1967 and spent his whole live serving in either the House or Senate of the Illinois state legislature.

It also had a web site that gives a list of all the former military people in congres. It is quite a list for both democrats and republicans.

So, what's your point? Or, did you simply toss this out to let others make points about your post?
Don't think for a moment that most of those Americans currently serving, or who have served in the past, have any use for the Democratic Party. It's always the dems who spew their loathsomeness about the military.

Well, if the left is shipping around their bragging right s list of who in the Dems served in the military, it will have no effect other that a backlash as it is utter hypocrisy. The Democratic party's so call senior leadership from poor stock display little patriotism. In fact, many of them already have American servicemen's blood on their hands as their words give aid an comfort to the enemy of our military, encouraging them to fight on. To the Dems, politics trumps everything, including the lives of American servicemen. For many of these Dems this is a second time around...VietNam and now the Middle East. Shameful, scummy nothings. They have no real leadership skills which forces them blame everyone for everything which is the lazy and simple way for them to handle the job. You will never find a true and effective leader amongst people who prefer to portray themselves as poor victims over fictitious subjects.

It's interesting that they all served when there was a draft.

And a whole lot of Republicans didn't serve when there was a draft. So I guess they were better at draft dodging thant the Democrats were?

I think that they mean Bob Kerrey. The former governor and former Senator from Nebraska. He was a Navy Seal and won the Medal of Honor in Vietnam. Also lost a leg while doing so.
