SCI FI Channel announced that it has renewed its original series Battlestar Galactica for a third season. Production on the 20-episode order is slated to begin in Vancouver, Canada, in February 2006 for premiere later in the year, the network said.

The entire ensemble cast returns for the new season, including Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park. Also returning are executive producer and writer Ronald D. Moore and executive producer David Eick.

Currently in its second season, Galactica is a hit with audiences. The second season resumes with new episodes on Jan. 6, 2006, as part of the winter premiere of SCI FI Friday. Battlestar Galactica is from NBC Universal Television Studio.

There was so much to admire about B5. Where else could you have a show so ambitious that the Shadows patiently make a lucid case for evil ? Where they explain that the war between them and the Vorlons is an ideological conflict of growth through order and obedience and moral codes vs growth through survival of the fittest ?

Did you see the "The Corp is Mother..." episode in the final season ? Where we see that among his fellow telepaths the villainous Bester is a pretty nice guy ?

You mean the seasons of the Shadow War and the Civil War you didn't like ?

There are 12. We have seen to date...

Has there been any confirmation that the 12 types of Cylon are limited to the Humanoid variety?

What about the non-Humanoid models? Including the old "toaster" Centurion, the new Centurion, the new Raider and the Heavy Raider could take the total up to 10.

Anymore, though, DVD sales are what make or break a given film or TV show. "Family Guy" is a recent famous example of DVD sales resurrecting a show. "Firefly"'s DVD sales have been very strong and I'm willing to wager that the movie will sell well.

The Shadow War was awesome, but the ending to the war was so lame. The 4th season (Earth Civil War) was rushed and the only thing I remember about the 5th season was Garibaldi's drinking problem and that Fabio telepath.

They were both great, I agree. I just had a slight preference for Sinclair.

I think the next Firefly should go straight to DVD...

Shoot em ups and hot, frisky Cylons. What's not to like? Glad they got another season.

Katee Sackhoff suggested in an interview that if ratings ever slip they should just have her and Tricia Helfer duke it out in bikinis. Ratings would improve.

Something to look forward to in season 7.

Good news indeed. Finally, when Galactica gets to Earth they will find the Cylons and Earth working together.

Just a rumor . . .

I guess it beats "Twilight Zone" reruns...barely.

I just don't want it to get stale. At the moment, they have a lot of mysteries, and a lot of them need to be solved.

If they can get to Earth with a cliff hanger at the end of 4, and then maybe earth/galacticans defeat the cylons by the end of 5, or maybe the cylons wipe them both out.

I'd like to see the writers be as mean and gritty as they have been known to, and kill all the humans.

No. I liked the ending to the Shadow War.

Neither the Shadows nor the Vorlons ever intended to fight each other directly. Each wanted to manipulate the younger races to reject the other. They wanted to use the younger races to one up each other. Like when Sheridan described them as feuding parents fighting in front of the children, trying to manipulate them into taking sides. The younger races refusing to take sides, saying that they will pick their own way between Darwinism and the Vorlons (what a perfect metaphor for the Vorlons. A frozen virgin.), shamed and rejected them both.

Yes, but think about this. The Shadows and Vorlons traveled light-years and they arrived at the Corianna system at the same time.

Now imagine that either the Vorlons or the Shadows arrived 5 minutes late to the battle. Sheridan & co. would be dead.

I wonder if they'll bring back Star Trek.

They better not bother unless it's as good as TNG. I watched only the first few seasons of DS9 and got tired of it. Skipped Voyager almost totally.

Enterprise, jeez. Watched the first 2 eps, quit. I thought it was supposed to be a prequel, but everything seemed more advanced than TOS.
