Is there a reference for this?
Do they have to say it in capital letters?
If this is an attempt at viral marketing, it's a very poor one.

Whenever I have a store employee end my transaction with a generic "Happy Holiday" at this time of the year, I have a perfect opportunity to remind them (one on one) that there are several holidays observed at this time of the year, but the one I am celebrating is Christmas. Depending on their response, it may be appropriate to remind the individual that Jesus loves them and express empathy that their employer is not allowing them to express their personal joy at that fact. I don't think it is preventing communication of the message of the Gospel at all. We need to be creative in our counter-tactics, not angry!
MAKE-IT-UP STORY ALERT!

In the years following the ascension of the resurrected Jesus to heaven, the Christian church grew rapidly.
Christians soon found themselves to be the subjects of persecution by both the Romans and the Jews.
In many locales, it became dangerous to be known as a Christian.
Thus, when two strangers met and thought maybe they were fellow believers, one of them would draw, on the ground, the upper half of the fish symbol.
Recognizing the symbol, the stranger would add a second curved line and complete the drawing of a fish.
It is a very simple shape to draw - just two curved strokes. It could be drawn quickly, and erased just as quickly if there was no sign of recognition on the part of the stranger.
Ho Ho Ho Haaaappy Holidays.
Nope, don't work for me.
Ho Ho Ho Meeerry Christmas.
Now that works!
WALMART is not "banning the use of Merry Christmas". This has been discussed to death, and Walmart has made it clear that "associates" are free to offer the "Merry Christmas" greeting.

Welcome Newbie! What's your source for this?
On a like note, here's Larry the Cable Guy from Blue Collar Comedy with "The Night Before a Non-Denominational Winter Holiday."

How about "Happy Birthday Jesus" and cut to the chase? The "J" Name should get them shaking in their boots (which is not a bad thing).
77% of Americans are Christian, 1.3% are Jewish, .5% are Muslim, and a negligible percentage are Wiccan. That leaves about 20% with no religious affiliation. Now I would bet that at least half of that 20% still celbrate Christmas in some way. That means that approximately 87% of the US celbrates Christmas, or at least identifies with it. So for the sake of the 13%, we who love Christmas must see it morph into Generic Winter Celebration? I don't think so.
What would merchants do without the last 5 weeks of the year? They need those Christmas sales. And yet, they would deny those Christmas shoppers the one message that validates the purchases they are making! I think it's time to send a message to them: Wish me a Merry Christmas when I do the same to you, or I'm leaving my unpaid-for basket of goodies at the check stand and marching out, in search of a Christian friendly store. I don't care how good the prices are or how much time it took me to find what I was looking for. There's more to Christmas than money and things.
I saw a commercial this morning for True Value Hardware. They mentioned Christmas many times. I need a new socket set - maybe I'll go there...
I would love to see these people that are so anti-Christmas just hush. You don't see them working on Christmas or Passover these are Christ based holidays for most people. I understand freedom of speech and religion. We all have it with Hannakua and Kwanza we haven't tried to stop people from sharing what they believe quit making us and our children sharing what they believe. Christ is what our country was built on not just our churches. If you don't feel that way maybe your not a true American!!!
