I used to run a Goodyear store accross from CBS HQ in NY. Andy Rooney was a regular..and actually a nice guy. Mike Wallace was in a couple of times---MAJOR a--hole. Also Robin Byrd (worn out 70's porn star).
I tranferred to a store in NJ and met Armand Assante (his brother was the mayor)
Regarding wrestlers, you reminded me: I waited on Rick Flair once when I worked at a store near Charlotte, NC one summer. He was not very tall, had platinum hair, and a bruised eye.
My brushes with fame (or infamy) aren't much, but here they are
I knew one of the sons of Robert Hanssen, the FBI agent who was caught spying 5 years ago.
I've seen a motivational talk by Rudy Ruettiger (the real life inspiration for the movie "Rudy"), but didn't meet him personally.
I shook hands with Cardinal Arinze (the Nigerian who was rumored to be the next pope after JP2) and thanked him for visiting Notre Dame. He blessed my rosary too.
I saw Pope John Paul II from a distance, when he was giving his weekly morning address to pilgrims. It was the morning of September 12, 2001 and hearing the pope pray that day was especially poignant.
No, but back in the day I wasn't a bad looking girl. I was driving my friend's XKE which, if truth be known, was hotter than me. He wasn't even interested in the car. I was crushed! LOL! Of course way back then no one ever suspected Rock's preferences. :0)
Let's see over the years I have met:
Henry Winkler
Bill Bennett
Many Reds/Bengals players/coaches as I grew up near Cincinnati
Dorothy Hamill
Lee Trevino
Pele
But my all-time, absolute favorite is the night I met and got a picture of myself with Bob "The General" Knight.
I've ran across sports figures but never any Hollywood celebs. PaulaB, JLH is a great one to run across. She is a hottie.
I saw Belinda Carlisle when she was filming a music video in Las Vegas.
In 1998, I saw Natalie Portman in NYC when she was doing the stage play for The Diary of Anne Frank. Petite, maybe 5'3", big head.
I also briefly met C. Boyden Gray (White House counsel for the first President Bush) at a Memorial Day picnic in Maine a few years ago.
I do. He played the indian guy, right?
By court order, I'm not allowed to share that information.
Isn't it part of the public record?
The ones I have against you and pissant are public knowledge.
pissie... where you at, now?
Keith Ortego, rookie wide receiver for the Bears in '84-'85, lived next door to me in Arlington Heights during the Bears '85 championship season. He even got me, my brother and two other friends tickets to the Bears/Rams playoff game in the snow. What a great time. Keith used to play tag football with us. He was a pretty cool guy.
Derian Hatcher? Didn't his face look like it had been through the meat grinder?
We did get to eat lunch with the movie crew and say Belushi and Ackroyd, but they didn't mingle with anyone.
I was on a plane once with Jesse Jackson. What a quandary. I really wanted the plane to crash but I was on it. It made me sick the way people were fawning all around him.
I met Gayle Sayers when I was about ten. He came to our park in Chicago and gave a clinic.
I have played tennis with the Jensen brothers, Rebecca Jensen, Sargis Sargisian and Martina Hingis came on a court where I was giving a clinic.
The clinic I would have liked to give her!!!!!
;^)>
You could tell he played Hockey...
You know some gals
like the bad boy ;P
At one time in my life, I use to collect autographs..in doing so, I've met Leroy Anderson,(he composed "Sleigh Ride", "The Typewriter Song", "The Syncopated Clock"), B.J. Thomas,(who knocked me down as he was running up a flight of stairs, he stopped to help me up; nice guy,) Mercer Ellington,(who was the son of the great Duke Ellington) and Cootie Williams(who played the famous "Growl" trumpet heard on many of Duke Ellington's early recordings) -umm, oh yeah...Chuck Mangione,(truly a nice guy)and Count Basie.
I've also met some other people that are rather well known as well - Francis A. Schaeffer, Josh McDowell, W.A. Criswell, R.C. Sproul, Jay Adams..Chuck Girard(of LoveSong)Phil Keaggy, ooh yeah.. Rayfield Wright(former Dallas Cowboy, he let me hold his SuperBowl ring, lol).
There are a few others that I've met as well; but I just can't recall everyone's name at this moment.
You should have taken one for the team.
[just kidding]
I adored that show - especially Stacy Keach. Guy's an underrated comic.
Y'know, I had never even heard of "A Christmas Story" until my first Christmas with Xena's Guy, in 1997. (His family also introduced me to "Hercules" and "Xena," so I guess we have a lot to thank - or blame - them for.)
