"Hot Stove League" BB thread....who gets the AL MVP?...A-Rod or Big Pappi?
one man's opinion.......

Posted on 11/14/2005 9:44:54 AM PST by ken5050

Among the most widely aniticipated post-season MLBB awards will be announced today at 2PM..the AL MVP. Will it be the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez, at the Red Sox' David Ortiz? Will a DH finally break through and win the MVP?

FWIW, I think A-Rod should hope he loses...about the last thing he would/should want to win is an invidual award, when the Yankees again had, by their standards, a lousy year...Maybe, if A-Rod wins...the Boss will nickname him "Mr. November"

BTW..I lost my baseball ping list, so I can't ping all of you..

who do you think gets it?

You took the words right out of my mouth. I really wanted Alex to win the MVP, but not now.

I think they'll give to A-Rod, because it's hard to argue that a DH could be MVP.

The DH should be banned from baseball.

Hands down, Ortiz over A-Rod. No guy in MLB had more game winning HRs than Big Pappi.

We Mariner fans don't have many good days, but the day A-Rod was traded was one.

Some bloggers/newspapers are suggesting he be traded not because of his coasting at left, but because he still has good value. A couple more years of "coasting" will diminish his value.

This is the first time he has ever suffered (public) criticism while a Mariner. The NY Post reports him as saying he is unhappy with the Mariners organization and that the fans do not like him any more. So he is pouting. He has an annual meeting in Japan with Mr. Nintendo (primary owner) to discuss his life.

If he thinks NY is an easier market to please, good luck!

Triva question: A-Rod is the 4th player to win the MVP at 2 different positions...

Robin Yount, Stan Musial, Hank Greenberg

Ranger fans have exactly the same feeling about when he left Texas. I think Yankee fans will say the same thing when they get rid of him as well.

Rodriguez beat out David Ortiz, Boston's larger-than-life designated hitter, who finished a close second in the vote. Rodriguez earned 16 first-place votes and 331 points, while Ortiz received 11 first-place votes and 307 points.

Los Angeles' Vladimir Guerrero received the other first-place vote, finishing third. Boston's Manny Ramirez and Cleveland's Travis Hafner rounded out the top five.

Rodriguez got 11 second-place votes and one third, while Ortiz was listed second on 17 ballots.
I guess some West Coaster (maybe a Seattle writer!) gave A-Rod a third place vote. That's funny.

A-Fraud gets the best stats, but how many of those HRs and RBI came when it didn't matter? How did he do with runners in scoring position, I bet he finished middle of the pack there, and to me, that's the only offensive stat in baseball that really matters.

A-Rod does not deserve it. I believe that homosexuals should be allowed to play in the majors, but that they we shouldn't legitimize their lifestyle by giving them the MVP.

Mo only got 1 3rd, 1 4th, and 1 5th-- with the rest being below the Top 5 on ballots. That's not right. He was #3 on my ballot.
