WWE reports Eddie Guerrero found dead

By COREY DAVID LACROIX -- SLAM! Wrestling

WWE.com is reporting today that Eddie Guerrero was found dead this morning in his hotel room in Minneapolis, MN.

No cause of death has been reported, Guerrero is survived by his wife Vickie and two daughters.

Guerrero had an absolutely stellar wrestling career, marked by his ability to deliver athletically competent, emotional, and ultimately awe inspiring performances in the ring. At the same time, it seemed he was constantly fending off his own personal demons in the form of alcohol and drug dependency. Those struggles were immortalized in the released DVD Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story.

SLAM! Wrestling will have more as this story develops.

I would like to know the death ratio of wrestlings top performers.
Years ago I went to see Kerry and Kevin Von Eric wrestle in Colonie NY.
Mike,Chris and Kerry all committed suicide.David died of natural causes, although that has been questioned.
Combined with other deaths it is truly a sad "sport"

I miss the old-school ECW. I went to college in Philly, and a few beers on a Friday night at the ECW bingo hall was a good, cheap and entertaining date night!

I miss ol' Joey Styles, and, of course, the quintissential stud-muffin himself...

Joey Styles did announcing dutues for WWE's Taboo Tuesday and last week's RAW - looks like he is being brought in and groomed as the future voice of the WWE now that Jim Ross has been esentially run out of town.

I like Joel Gertner a lot, too!

What Vinnie Mac needs is competition. The best thing that ever happened to WWE/WWF was WCW taking the top talent forcing them to develop new storylines.

It's been almost the same (Except tamed down) from 1998-99. Evil Boss McMahon and his lackey (Kurt Angle or HHH) vs the current face rebel all based on the Stone Cold gimmick.

Dave Meltzer's Wrestling Observer radio show comes on in a few minutes. He isn't live every week, though. I hope he is live today so he and callers can discuss this tragic loss.

Ah. I haven't watched too much of the "new" WWE -- esp. not while the kids are up! -- but if Styles gives voice to the infamous, "Oh, my GOD!" I might have to tune in...

Yea, Styles just recently came in and was given his tryout last week. This will be his second RAW, and a very important RAW it is, as it is Eddie's tribute show. "Oh my God!!!"

In any event, I don't think anyone in the front office has either the clarity of mind or the stones to tell any McMahon "Excuse me, Eddie died today, and your solution is having THE UNDERTAKER go over with the WWE Championship tonight is really awful."

Good taste was never a trait associated with Vince McMahon Jr. I remember several years ago when Brian Pillman died suddenly just before the taping for Monday Night RAW (the circumstances were similar to this situation with Eddie Guerrero). They acknowledged Pillman's death at the beginning of the program. Vince then said, "be sure to stay tuned for a very special interview with the wife of the late Brian Pillman". This was repeated several times throughout the broadcast, each time cutting away to a shot of Mrs. Pillman sitting there waiting to be interviewed. Vince saw it as an opportunity to keep people from switching over to WCW Nitro. I thought it was disgraceful to use this as a gimmick to keep people tuned in until the end of the program, at which time the interview finally took place. Vince McMahon has no conscience.

Meltzer is live and discussing Eddie now. Bret Hart comes on for an interview in about 30 mins.

I like size of the wrestlers in TNA better than the roided to the max ones in the WWE. But TNA is a bit too Lucha for my taste and that ring has to go. As for Eddie, he was one of my all time favorites. He really knew how to work a match and draw heat. I just wish he and others didn't have to put on all that weight just to make it big in the USA.

I would like to see less roided up monsters. I would also love to see less punches and more wrestling. Too bad that won't ever happen in Vince McMahon's WWE. And garbage match junior and Miss HHH doesn't make feel any better about that happening after Vince is gone either.

His all-time low was allowing No Way Out to continue after Owen Hart had fallen.

No variety these days. Now almost every wrestler looks superficially alike and most of them have theme songs that all sound superficially alike. It's been that way for years. I'm oldschool: I like a mix of looks and styles. I'm with you.

With a name like HitmanNY I figured you were.;) Browsing the Sunday circular I seen they have a new Bret Hart DVD coming out. Since I haven't been watching much wrestling lately I can't wait to get it and see some good old matches.

On my first anniversary with my first wife we celebrated at a wrestling match in Corpus Christi. It was at the "coliseum".

Kamala the giant was heading to the ring. I made some stupid comment and then looked around me. Everybody had vacated their seats and I was alone. I raised a peanut sized fist as this monster came down the aisle.

I call it an aisle, but his huge legs were knocking metal folding chairs everywhere. He looked down at me and gave me a big smile. I met him later and he was a really a good guy. He said that the look on my face was priceless!

I was SCARED!!!

I met Andre the Giant also. The size of that man cannot be described. His final match against Hulk Hogan, as sick as Andre was he could have smashed Hogan. Hogan has admitted as much.

Nick Kozak

Ivan Putski

The Tomahawk Chop.

Those were the days.

I actually head butted Andre the Giant.

I went around a corner in Corpus and my head hit his butt.
