The irony (and borderline tastelessness) of having The Undertaker substitute for Guerrero and win the WWE Championship at the Eddie Guerrero Tribute show on the day Guerrero passed away will be lost on everyone at the WWE Front Office.

Completely. I would say nobody's that tasteless but we are talking about Vince. Look at the JR skit he did on RAW a few weeks ago. But when you look at the Smackdown roster, they really don't have that many choices. And considering how many good teams and wrestlers they've chased off in the past year, the Undertaker may be the only choice.

Stupid video keeps buffering every 3 seconds. Can't watch it.

Brining the Undertaker back faster than they expected with a major title change is probably the best thing they can do right now, given the weakness of the Smackdown roster. And Undertaker as champion certainly makes the fans happy, and he has a natural program with Orton, who has a natural program with Battista when he gets better.

The 3-way would work better with Orton-Undertaker-Battista, though. Wait and see - there will be reports from the taping tonight online this evening.

In any event, I don't think anyone in the front office has either the clarity of mind or the stones to tell any McMahon "Excuse me, Eddie died today, and your solution is having THE UNDERTAKER go over with the WWE Championship tonight is really awful."

I tell everyone I know to NEVER work in a family business!

I think its the kind of thing that people on the outside (us) can see with clarity, but that those close to the situation (management at WWE) won't see until it's too late.

Leave it alone and let the file load, buffering and all. When it is done, press play and it will play smoothly.

Holy Crap! Wonder what they'll say on RAW tomorrow night?

Viva La Raza!

I would say nobody's that tasteless but we are talking about Vince.

Vince seems to think that the worst bathroom humor is hysterically funny. He crosses the line so often it's truly pitiful. Wrestling was much better before Vinnie Mac's national expansion - when they just were funny as opposed to trying to be funny.

Stuff like World Class Championship Wrestling in Texas billing Gino Hernandez as 'The Handsome Half-Breed from Highland Park.' See, now THAT's FUNNY!!!

Both Raw and Smackdown will be tribute shows with wrestlers breaking character to discuss Eddie, most likely, much like the Owen Hart tribute Raw show.

My sons used to watch Freddie Blassey on TV. He called his opponents "pencil necked geeks", so of course they called each other the same thing. Funny!

Eddie was about as hot as hot could be in the summer of 2003. I was working nights and would make sure I got home by nine . The other memory I have was the ladder match with RVD in Edmonton where the fan jumped in the ring and pushed the ladder over with Eddie on it.
He got a much belated push and it was one of the few times the push came from the fans not the "talent group".
The ironic thing is he was rumoured to be in the famous airplane incident with Mr Perfect, Lesnar, and Razor Ramone. Eddie disappeared after that and it turns out we went into rehab. The irony is Lesnar and Mr Perfect (also found dead in his room) were from Minnesota and Eddie died there. How Scott Hall is still alive is mind-boggling.

Or Jake Roberts, for that matter.

I think if TNA could ever get a real shot, they may have a chance. Think about who they have, or may have in the very near future. Granted Jeff Jarrett to me is the Ric Flair of TNA (out of shape and needing to really retire) but with the Dudleys (excuse me 3-D), possibly Jericho (when he decides to come back), not to mention a handful of other strong stars. Even with Big Diesel finally hanging it up, WWE can not keep bringing back Hogan expecting that to take them over.

And heaven forbid if Sting ever does decide to come back, that right there would give TNA a big push

TNA on tv comes across as small time and a bunch of nobodies, even if they are talented wrestlers. Christian is much more likely to wind up at TNA than Jericho, and while I like him a lot he isn't a major acquisition for them.

When WCW overtook the WWF they did so with the strength of top WWF stars coming to WCW. They also had a few credible home grown stars (Sting comes to mind). TNA looks like the elephants burial ground of WWE castoffs. Christian or Jericho won't change that impression.

Basically TNA has a long road ahead - they can be a credible 2nd national promotion, but its a long way off. None of their home grown/local talent looks like a star and they have nobody to make them look like stars. The guy I like the most is Samoa Joe, but he looks like a guy working an independent show down at the local Knights of Columbus (even though he isn't).

I wonder if steroids were a contributing factor.

Reminds me of a sign someone held up during one of his WCW matches:

"Hey Eddie, how'd you get so damn big?"

It's too bad, I loved his "Lie Cheat Steal" heel persona. Far more entertaining than, say, Triple ZZZ.

Oh I agree with you. The have a long, long way to go. The few times I've watched it, it seemed about the level of what you'd see at the local armory if you know what I mean. I heard something about Christian debuting tonight but they're not at the level I would even think about buying a PPV yet.

The thing is it may very well be going back to what you were talking about with the semi-national circuits. WWE isn't pulling in the numbers on USA and it shows. Five-ten years from now will there be a 2 hour wrestling show every Monday night? Contracts nonwithstanding at this rate, probably not

I was thinking that it was a darn shame that Latino Heat was dead, when Scott friggin' Hall is still alive and (barely) kicking.

Will miss Eddie G's Frog Splash... one of the great moves in WWF/WWE.

I picked up watching WWF on Monday nights when some of the Monday Night Football games late in the year were between teams that were not going to the play-offs. I've been too busy with work these last few years to watch the matches these days, but I may pick up watching again now that it is back on USA Network (from Spike).

For the record, I use to watch the Von Erik clan wrestle all the time. I miss Fritz's Iron Claw move - at one time, I lived in Denton (Texas) and saw many of the Von Erik clan (they lived in Corith I believe) at a motorcycle shop in town - I was pretty young then and I was a little too nervous to walk up and say hello - didn't want that Iron Claw on my head - very painfull.

R.I.P. Eddie G.

For the record: I'm not an "animal" - I like sports entertainment which is what I consider WWE. I'm sick of listening to the whining that filters down from the NFL, NHL, NBA, & MLB these days.

I think the best thing they could do is get the title off of Jarrett - he makes the whole promotion look small time, if you ask me. They have a long way to go: the path is to cultivate credibility first and foremost. Then develop good characters with compelling story lines.

Even the WWE is deficient in that regard, lately.

Yea, I'd love to see the return of several regional promotions. I'm oldschool when it comes to wrestling. Right now there's too much T&A, even though I love good looking women around, the constant procession of bootie carted across the screen detracts from the wrestling ambiance.

I like a slightly seedier wrestling that had a basic credibility to it. Even if some wrestlers were not credible, the championships always had an aura about them. Now, its a cartoon sideshow. I don't care for the direction it has gone and as I said on the day Vinnie Mac won the wrestling war by purchasing WCW for a song, he can only go down from here!

Wait and see.

Lots of broken spirits & bodies in the world of wrestling. And way too many young, dead men.
