pclinux from Lincd. I can get it to the graphical interface after I get past the command line page shown here :http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?release=381&slide=1. Then it comes right back to command line and askes for "localhost login:" To which I type guest and then it asks for "password" and I type guest.

The next command line is " [guest@localhost guest]$"

No matter what I type it says " -bash: guest: command not found "

I have no idea what to do from there. I have zero experience with linux and so this is frustrating.
Any idea where to go next?

thanks

Try "kdeinit", "xinit", or "startx"

It is bizarre that it's dumping you into text mode on boot, as the version I have takes you straight to a KDE desktop. Maybe you have a bad CD.

Or, it's possible that you don't have at least 256 MB of RAM...I believe that is the minimum for PCLinuxOS, IIRC.

Is 1.5 gig more than 256 MB? LOL

I'd definitely say you have a bad CD, then. Theoretically, with that much RAM, you could put a live Knoppix CD in and have the entire OS load to RAM. I've done this with smaller distros, but never with a biggie like that...
