'Arrested Development' gets the ax

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- Two TV families appear to be getting the boot.

The Camdens will bid farewell to viewers in May when the WB Network's top-rated family drama "7th Heaven" ends its run after 10 seasons in what sources said was largely a cost-cutting move.

The Bluth clan of Fox's ratings-challenged "Arrested Development" is also headed for the exit after Fox cut the third-season order on the Emmy-winning comedy to 13 episodes.

It's a shame about AD. This season is too zany for me and reeks of desperation, but when it first came on it was one of those shows that got better as you got more involved.

OTOH, from the networks' point of view, it's better to have a show that most people kinda like than a show that a few people never miss. Or else those few people had better buy a lot of cars ...

Yeah, that scene where Earl and Randy found out the guy was gay and started backing away with their hands up as if he had just drawn a gun on them was choice! "Earl, you're trying to sell a cat to a man who fancies dogs."

The name Bob Loblaw is absolutely hysterical.

A whole lot better than Chachi.

There is an Earle recap special on tonight from 9PM onward...then the actor playing Earle hosts SNL. I can't believe the network actually put this show on television...it is very funny. I think it goes up against the Hillary wannabe President show, and thus NBC is having to capture viewers who may not know it's there.

Sophisticated and complex humor is lost on the unwashed masses.

A pity, indeed.

I thought AD was very funny....but like others have pointed out, I never could find it! Malcolm in the Middle is another lol funny show but they've moved the new season to a different night too. I watch the reruns on another channel.

Indeed. Funniest show I've ever seen--period.

You had to follow it, you had to pay attention, otherwise you wouldn't like it. Shoot, you practically had to watch each episode two or three times just to be sure you wouldn't miss anything.

I literally laughed for about two days with Bob Loblaw. More hilarious than the name, though, was his commerical, in which everytime he finished a sentence, he would slam the book shut. That's just gold.

And incidentally, "analrapist" might be the funniest thing I've seen on TV ever. Tobias has some great lines, but that one is pure gold.

If I don't like it, it's on your head....

By any chance, are you Sicilian?

The thing that caught me was the stair car, early in season one. I laughed so hard.

What always cracks me up is when they talk about "hop ons."

Just thinking about that show is making me laugh out loud. Man, that show is priceless. I can't believe it got cancelled.

AD won 5 Emmy's in 2004 including Best Comedy Series.

It's really a shame that FOX didn't treat it as the jewel it was.

And it also had the best theme song on TV.

George Sr.: The Brits set me up! I heard nothing about Iraq!
Michael: Dad, we have a picture of you and Saddam Hussein.
[picture of George Sr. shaking hands with Saddam Hussein. Caption says "Bluth-Hussen Meeting 1998."]
George Sr.: I thought he was the Soup Nazi! I was just congratulating him on a great job!

Speaking of the theme: a gift for your iPods.

In case you didn't know it, they used the theme as the ringtone for the characters' cell phones.

No, I was channeling a whiny liberal: "It's your fault I have a crummy life, not my bad decisions."

For British Eyes Only!

I loved their guest stars, especially when they replaced Henry Winkler's character with Scott Baiao's [sp]. I just kept waiting for someone to jump over a stuffed shark, or some similar reference to the man who gave birth to that phrase.

I also liked it when Ron Howard's narration mentioned Andy Griffith, and then he said, "we wouldn't joke about Andy Griffith, really."
