I was throwing Napoleon Dynamite lines out left and right and people were just assuming I was stoned or something.

I didn't think you were stoned, I thought you were drunk! Just kidding!! Neither thought occured to me. I thought they were hilarious. I didn't realize I was the only one. Maybe you just had to see the movie.

That is definitely the case. My research suggests that Monty Python lines work whether someone has seen Python or not. Napoleon Dynamite only works on people who have seen the movie.
