Turning things around a bit, there are also a lot of men who will only date 'hotties' ... who wouldn't give merely average-looking women like myself the time of day. In other words, it works both ways: there are shallow men and shallow women.

I've seen several guys like that. I think I've only had one friend that I'd characterize as a "gold digger". She and another friend (guy) were shopping to put together a dinner for the two of them. He said she kept throwing extra stuff in, "oh I'm out of shampoo, oh I need some of this and that and the other" all of which he was expected to pay for. lol, things really cooled off between them after that.

Stuff like that amazes me. A former co-worker (who was in her forties) used to tell us, "When I was young and 'hot', I didn't pay for NOTHIN'"

I'm glad your friend saw through the one who obviously had designs on his bank account, before too much damage was done!
