Nothing is stopping you from purchasing "shaving kits," to send to our military personnel.

This will p*ss off Harkin to no end. He wanted Rush removed from Armed Forces radio.

It is a great idea. If Rush makes MORE money and p*sses off Harkin even more, this is bad?

The suggestion that if Rush was really compassionate, he should give them away sounds like redistributionist liberal puke to me. Not to be harsh, but whomever suggested that rush give his product away can start sending 1/2 of their paycheck to the Salvation Army if you want to be considered a "true American"

See how that sounds?

I was listening closely.

heh--I'm glad some people read closely as well. Most people who've slammed me for my comment either didn't read close enough, or chose to ignore it.

All you are saying is that it costs Rush money to give away the subscription. OK that's fine. He can give some away, charge, charge half price or do whatever he wants. He may declare it as an expense, a charitable contribution, or whatever. I am only criticizing that I listened today and he made it sound like a donation from him for the servicemen, whereas we are paying half the price and I think Rush will still make money on this.

It's a fine idea, servicemen should appreciate it. I just think he should have said, if you listeners want to buy service people subscriptions, I'll sell them at a special 50% discount. I can only tell you I didn't like the way he characterized it, so when I saw this post I agreed.

IMHO sending Rush to servicemen makes sense. Also IMHO, otherwise paying for a Rush subscription does not. I'm amazed people will pay to watch him do a radio broadcast but more power to him.

You're wool and I'm iron. You're not easily fooled and I'm not easily bent.

Thanks for the wonderful compliment! :-D

If he feels that he should be heard by the troops, he can do what he wishes, with his 24/7 subscriptions.

It's not that he thinks he needs to be heard, it's the fact that thanks to Tom Harkin whining about him being on AFRN, the troops, most of whom like listening to his show, only get one hour a day. If it helps keep up morale with the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines, and private citizens are willing to foot the bill, what's the problem?

...who would you say has contributed more to society (in the world) and deserves more respect and admiration, Rush, or Linus Torvalds?

OK, I'll play your little game. Personally, I can't decide. Rush was smart enough to combine his natural ability with an existing (though unexploited) market and an existing career path to make millions. That's pretty impressive.

Linus took a hobby that was of personal interest to him, created a market, and also created a career path that is pretty much unique--even today. He makes quite enough money to live on in a very expensive section of the country. He's provided more employment than Rush, his product is taking on the biggest corporation in history (and doing a great job of it), and he's providing competition all over the world.

I agree with you he could have put it better. Guess today is a day he should have used both halves. LOL

I'm amazed at the subscribers too. I remember when everyone was beating him up about his web page and when he would get one. He put it off for months while he tried to 'figure out' how to make it pay.

Gotta hijack his marketing brain guys for a plan I have....

Agreed. They don't need a discount 24/7. They need stuff.

Well, its par for the course. No matter what you do, no matter how noble the cause, someone will probably have a problem with it. Geez-o-wiz

You are not correct.

I was in the suck. A long time ago, far, far away.

Stuff you could get.

News, well, that was tricky. What you got was drivel, what you wanted was truth.

24/7 can scratch an itch that only those over there have and understand.

If you don't want to buy one don't, only don't think the rest of us don't know that Rush will make money. We know he will and don't care. It's my choice and any thinking person {anyone that subscribes to Rush 24/7 qualifies} knows that Rush will profit. Profits are good. Quit whining.

Did I hear correctly that it's not exactly a gift, but is at a 'reduced' rate?

Do what you wish but I think its a great idea. I've slept in those very tents and the same crappy countries around the world. The last thing I wanted or needed was more toiletries and snacks. Believe me there's more than enough junk on AFRTS than you can believe - not to mention BBC and CNN International.

Its great to hear some clear thinking while deployed. No one's forcing anything, you can take part if you wish.

Rush did this because some Senator spent two days bitching about our troops getting Rush on the Armed Forces radio. They only get one hour a day of his show. He also sent this Senator (I forget which one) some Gitmo gear! This is a fine example of Rushism.

Well, I'll tell ya what. Why don't you donate your next paycheck to any charity you want. That will be a drop in a tiny bucket compared to what Rush will do and I mean per centage and number wise. Do you really expect Rush to just say, "OK all you troops. Just sign up and I WILL just GIVE you a subscription"? Give me a break. That's his paycheck just as yours is yours. Think about it.

It's a sweet deal and it's generous.

Hey moron...like the heavy majority of Rush's listeners, and probably the heavy majority of us here at FReeRepublic, I think is a GREAT IDEA.

Why don't you pull it in, and think about the 24/7 benefit of this is idea, especially with the inclusion of sending Senator Harkin and 'thank you' card for his negative comments about Rush's excessive time (1 hour out 24 hours) on AFRTS bringing this idea to its fruition.
