Well up is kind of relative when you are in space.

We are actually on the other side of the middle.

While we are in orbit about Earth, it is just about impossible to maintain any kind of proper orientation to the sun.

Accordingly, we are opening up our circulation pumps to held distribute heat from the atomic reactors, and we are using artificial light primarily. There is plenty of power.

Once we get into a stable orientation, we can set up our diurnal solar mirror to provide natural sunlight most of the time, adjusting its focus as needed as we get closer to Mars.

That will also give us the opportunity to erect the zero-gee enclosure for some special fun.
