Time to heal.
Sleeping off the depression.
I was all for giving her a fair hearing...but alas, it was not to be...
I have a couple of people to ping in mind. But I am behaving tonight, for the most part.
Remember that the 45% of people on this board who opposed Miers (only 32% or so were in favor of her) did so because they "hate Bush." Some how only 6% of people on here now hate Bush. Amazing turn around in just a few days. In all seriousness though, this was a great nomination and the kind we had been hoping for all along. I'm very thankful that the president did well with his second chance. We should all be lucky enough to get do-overs whenever we make a mistake.
The cannibals are still hungry....
I support my President and his nominees to the Supreme Court. If you've got a problem with that, maybe you need a little more excitement in your life.
No gloating please, don't be childish. W made a mistake, and he corrected it brilliantly.
All together now! Let's get Alito confirmed! Onwards and upwards...
I was anti-Miers from the first second, but there's no need to devour our own.
I don't know if I was technically a supporter or not. But I wasn't bothered by her nomination the way the Donner Party was. I think she probably would have been a fine justice that conservatives would have been proud of. I wanted to see the hearings to find out if she could carry herself or not.
But that's moot. She withdrew. Now Alito is the pick, and he looks like an outstanding nominee. I'm very happy with Alito, from what I hear so far.
Maybe we should retitle this thread..."Where is the person who started this thread now?" Do you make a habit of being a hit and run poster?
Miers was cheerleader, confidant and sounding board for President Bush. Her personality type is keyed to how people really feel - and because of that she's able to offer a type of counsel others can't.
I was against Miers being confirmed, but she has my respect for her important to the team.
My concern was that she would performed the same function on the SC. Miers might have attached herself to a conservative -- and we'd have an extra conservative justice. Great. Or she could have attached to a liberal..
Powerful men who surround themselves with powerful "truth tellers" only, are handicapped. Bush is smarter than that -- but he confused the mirror she holds up to him, with the person she is... Powerful people needs a "Miers" on the team, and she deserved our respect. Not confirmation...
I was willing to give the president the benefit of the doubt.... so enough of your nut job post.
Imagine that, a bird-brain with no wings.
We are consistent in supporting President Bush. I, for one, have not changed my position, only those I chose to converse with. It's your type of attitude many have chosen to avoid.
Your side spouts unity in post and slip into your standard condescension, namecalling, and baiting in the next.
Disappointing is the kindest word to describe my thoughts right now.
Call me what you want, I'm done with your type of reconciliation.
How's that for consistency, Bub.
