A 3-year-old Great Dane in Sacramento, Calif., has been named the world's tallest dog by Guinness Book of World Records.
The award-winning dog, named Gibson, stands 7 feet tall when upright, according to the report.
He was officially named the planet's tallest dog Tuesday by officials with Guinness who flew to California from England to see Gibson.
Gibson's owner, Sandy Hall, said she never dreamed Gibson would turn out to be the planet's tallest dog. She said the dog is a gift.
"I've had Danes since 1981," Hall said. "I've never seen anything like this --ever."
Several neighbors in the county know about the record-holding dog, which dwarfs an average-sized golden retriever.
"I've seen him twice now, and he's a really tall dog," a neighbor said.

As always, I thank you for the bassety pic...my bassets could always make themselves taller, especially when trying to grab goodies off the kitchen table...

Great Danes are awesome when our Pomeranian first encountered one he freaked.
I was picking him up at the vet from a grooming. He came charging around the corner to see me and ran straight into the Dane. He looked up, and up and up until he was looking up at the Great Danes kneecap. The Boogie fell over backwards, peeing all over. It was the first and only time I ever saw him display fear of another dog.

"Steroids?" I'm guessing the dog probably eats 2-3 football players a week.

I wonder have they considered teaching the dog to play basket ball like Air Bud?

Yep when you trip over them instead of stepping in them, there is a difference.

When on goes up on its hind legs and goes for your neck you note the difference.

Almost as impressive as Tyson, the 68lb skateboarding bulldog,...go to http://www.skateboardingbulldog.com and check out the movies made out in Huntington Beach. The dog's a natural skateboarding 'dawg'.

Heck at 168lbs and 30mph, most NFL running backs would have a tough time staying on their feet,....and that's just playing, not to mention his teeth and natural twist of the neck if he's a bit upset.

There is a book by Allen Dean Foster with that premise - I can't think of the title. Aliens are looking for intelligent life - so they take a commodities trader from Chicago and a Scottish terrier because they couldn't decide which was the intelligent species!

Darn Skippy! First he'd chew off the paws then when the big dog fell down, he'd go in for the kill.

Your grandson is a pretty cute puppy, too; I'll have send you pictures tomorrow.

I have seen some of those, the dog has got to know what he is doing when he picks the skateboard up and takes it to the top of the hill. Is that in the movie??

That first wolfhound is like a WAY oversized version of Buck, the Bundys' dog on Married . . . With Children.
(And yes, before the nitpickers arrive, I am well aware that Buck was a Briard.)

Probably not as much as you think. I've had two danes, they have the metabolism of a rock. They really don't eat much. My dane goes through maybe 30 pounds of kibble a month.

Yep,... He rides it down a curved sidewalk, leaning right and left getting a serpentine ride, then wipes out before he goes over a cliff and knocks a trash can down onto the beach, maybe 20 ft below,..then uses his chompers to pull the board back on the walk and starts peddling it with 3 paws while guiding it with his free paw, to get back up top, turns around and hops on again.
