Souter was pushed by John Sununu (father of the present NH Senator) and Warren Rudman, former NH Senator.
From a quick Google search:
"Conservatives still recall that in the White House of the first President Bush, Mr. Card was deputy chief of staff to Mr. Sununu, the prime backer of Judge Souter. Mr. Card told me on Friday that 'it would be a complete exaggeration to say I played a role in the Souter selection. I merely supported his nomination as I did all presidential appointments.'"
I know Tony has mentioned Sununu and one other. I don't remember the second one.
You mean the LUNATIC RIGHT that got W elected TWICE? The LUNATIC RIGHT that expects a constitutional originalist on the Supreme Court and won't settle for stealth nominee just because she's 'born again"?
I liked Rush's sugestion a couple weeks ago that W should withdraw Meiers and nominate her for Chairman of the Federal Reserve. After all, she filled out her own tax forms, and balanced her own check book!
I agree with you.
Are you saying conservatives who opposed Miers are dangerous lunatics?
Life's retorts are
seldom forthcoming
in such
uncertain
times.
Some 62,000,000 people voted for Bush-Cheney in '04. The uber Right was only a fraction of that total.
If I were in charge, I'd have the name put out in the press tomorrow by "sources high up in the WH" and have the official announcement on Tuesday. That gets the base charged up, the story to cover more time and deflect the Libby deal, as well as avoid the jokes about being a Halwoeen pick.
But that's just me.
W made an explicit campaign promise to nominate judges in the model of Thomas and Scalia. I suppose you would consider them to be members of the LUNATIC RIGHT, also?
Excellent 'strategery.' Would you be available to take over for Andy Card? ;-)
If he was dissatisfied with Card (as well he should be), why would he send him over to Treasury? Let him resign to pursue a run for office in MA, or some other face-saving phrase, but OUT.
Free VersePoetry, then a photo, can you put your thoughts into clear English or are you limited to these non-traditional forms of expression?
President Bush took on the more entrenched holdovers from the Clinton administration. He showed them no prejudice and has allowed them to demostrate their merit or failure.
As President, you don't have the ability or permission to replace 100% of the entire government the day you get elected, even though the msm would like you to think so.
Some wood is good to burn, some starting to rot, and some full of bugs.
Takes time to go through the woodpile.
This was another article on Bush losing faith with top aides:
http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/us.jsp?feature=newz_1005bush_cheney
WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush's confidence in his top team of advisors, including all-important vice president Dick Cheney, has fallen sharply in the wake of the CIA leak scandal.
Maybe, but if the pick is a good one it seems fitting to give the Dems their "fright" on Halloween. :-)
Geez... they're still namecalling? There is a group here on FR that always seems to land on the left side of the ring.
LOL.
