You are correct. There is solar wind, which is not really wind, but high-speed particles driven by light pressure from the sun.
This is why I think this could be an appropriate name. It refers to a group of people near their Home Star, the advance contingent for a fleet of galactic explorers.
I am not heavily invested in "UTS Windward Phalanx," or any other name, yet. I still think there may be the right one to choose.

NnB, I have to be honest here and say that the words "windward" and "phalanx" in conjunction with each other reminds me too much of breaking wind, which leads to the appellation The UTS Flatulent. We would be the laughing stock of the galaxy.
It is after all, one of a kind and things that are one of a kind do not need names to differentiate them.
