At the risk of alienating the roughly 1/3 of FReepers who, judging by the FR poll, support the Miers nomination, I believe its withdrawal has now become a question of when, not whether.
The final nail was probably the John Fund article in this morning's WSJ which strongly suggests that if hearings proceed, some very messy matters regarding the Texas Lottery and W's National Guard service will be dredged up. Here's a link to the Fund column:

Note also that, after staying above the fray, the influential Wall Street Journal editorial today calls the Miers nomination a "mistake."
So with this as preface, and again, with apologies in advance to FReepers who might be outraged at the exercise, I am starting this pool to predict when the announcement will come - be it from the WH or from Ms. Miers herself - that the nomination is being withdrawn.
I'll start the ball rolling by putting in my pick at the early end of the spectrum:
Monday, October 24th, 5 PM.
Have at it!
Perhaps; time will tell!
Are you sure you don't want to get in on the action, with a chance to win the Grand Prize of a Wal-Mart jumbo-sized eraser?
I will stipulate that the political damage to W from withdrawing this nomination is unthinkable. Hence, I cannot bring myself to participate.
Fair enough. But may I ask, what if John Fund is right and letting the nomination proceed brings unthinkable damage by stirring the mud in Texas and also exposing Miers' lack of qualifications?
There are nothing but bad choices available at this point {largely due to the petulent behavior of Fund, et al}.
The worst of the bad options is to withdraw the nomination. It's the Liberals dream and would likely be fatal to this administration.
It would be better to let Miers go down in flames and have W remain loyal to the end, as the Dems overplay their hand.
Monday 10/24/05 9 a.m.
Noted. You're in!
But this thread got me thinking....what if Miers and Souter (both single and eligible) got together....then Miers could threaten to withhold pleasures from Souter unless he voted our way. Wouldn't that be great?
...never mind...
Mental images we'd rather not contemplate . . .
October 25, 26, or 27th, before 1 PM EST, whatever day. Likelihood falling on the 26th.
Wednesday, October 26, 4pm (Eastern)
Under the Official Rules, contestants are limited to one entry. What say I put you down for October 26th at 12:59 PM?
Noted!
I'll take it. Thanks.
The 12th of Never!!!!!
OK, you're in!
Uh, should I put you down as an 'undecided'? ;-)
November 28th, Senate Majority Leader FRIST and the other dum-ashe senators in the senate CAVE INTO the Leftwing extremists and abandon ALL hope of ever, ever getting back to the CONSTITUTIONAL OPTION of simple majority confirmation for Judges...
If we REALLY had a solid senate, then Harriet wouldn't be up to bat now would she...????
If FRIST has ALREADY shut down the hatefilled demokrats prior to the Gang of 14 buttkissingfest...then we would not be getting Harriet now...
The RINO's need to be REMOVED...then we don't have to deal with Boxer etc.
G
A definite maybe!!!
I'm not sure if she is the right person for the job, but I just have the feeling she will not withdraw.
If she doesn't, the hearings could be some of the most entertaining viewing in TV history. In a Demolition Derby kinda way ;-)
