IF INDICTMENTS COME DOWN, WHAT'S PLAN B?
Vanity ^ | 10-21-05 | cww

First, my bona fides. I have long been a Bush supporter and contributor, and I have known several folks in the know, like many of you. I have to be honest folks, I don’t like the way this is starting to smell.

From what I have heard and read, 22 Whitehouse officials have testified before the grand jury, including 10 West Wingers, some multiple times. The focus appears to be heavy upon the Vice President’s staff, and it concerns not the underlying violation of the various disclosure and espionage statutes, but rather, the dreaded cover-up.

I like Karl Rove. I know him and think he’s extremely sharp. But as a practicing attorney, I can tell you that you don’t go before the grand jury four times unless there is a problem. In fact, if you have ever been before a grand jury, you are just glad as hell when you get out of there. It’s one of those horrible memories you keep playing over and over again in your mind, wondering if you said the right thing or why the prosecutor asked that particular question.

I also know from experience that witnesses have poor memories, especially about conversations, dates, emails, etc. Add on top of faulty memories the fact that you may have 22 different recollections of various conversations and events among the Vice President’s staff. Even if you are telling the God’s-honest truth, there may be two or three other witnesses who have a completely different recollection of events.

Can you imagine the number of emails and conversations a high level Whitehouse official has in a single day? The perils of testifying before a Grand Jury about long forgotten, seemingly insignificant, everyday events can quickly become the makings of a perjury indictment. Couple that with the rumors of 2 or 3 VP staffers cooperating with Fitzgerald, well … you can see where this is going. No matter how loyal you think you may be, when the prosecutor comes sniffing around your corner, human nature is to be as cooperative as you possible can – anything to get the spotlight off of you, including telling the unflattering truth about the guy in the next cubicle.

You folks in the know out there, you know where this is going. Attorney Fitzgerald is not fool and no political hack. He has no political ambitions and is a bright, highly seasoned attorney. If he believes that somebody has lied to him and/or the Grand Jury, he’s going after bear.

I’m not trying to be a pessimist. I’m just a realist. And we all better be ready for the onslaught.

Forget Karl Rove – if any official of the Whitehouse is indicted, it’s going to get ugly quick, and it could cost Bush his presidency despite his complete and total innocence. If you think you have seen a media feeding frenzy thus far, you are about to witness the perfect storm, and the Whitehouse ship is not in any condition to weather the potential onslaught.

We better have a Plan “B”.

Nothing. The WH has contigency plans and Libby and Rove have excellent lawyers.

My prediction - No indictments.

Agreed.

Even if Rove is not indicted, the Dems will play this for all its worth.

Plan B is to get a 6 pack of beer while I watch the World Series.

Same as Plan A.

The thing is, this is just a high-level mud-slinging going on here, and it's essentially the same "game" being played in Texas with Tom DeLay. Now the Democrats know that all it takes to cripple the other side is to make mere accusations. No evidence is needed. Just drag it out long enough so that the mud sticks, and indeed dries on the clothing. Preferably until 2008, but as long as possible will do fine.

Do you think Rove, Libby and/or others in the White House were lying to the prosecutor?

What you're saying ... the investigation by the grand jury starts with one objective ... finding little to go on, casts around waiting for a witness with a faulty recollection to cross himself/herself up then lower the boom with an indictment.

Plan B: The capture of Bin Laden and it will be all over for liberals and their media whores throughout the remaining of President Bush second term.

and it could cost Bush his presidency despite his complete and total innocence.

Not if he tosses everyone involved overboard and replaces them with superior choices.

I'm very concerned the Libby lied.

If he truly lied (not just didn't recall things the way someone else did, or didn't recall some things at all), then he is an idiot, should be prosecuted and is someone we don't need in the White House.

From what you are saying and other things I have read, it seems to me Fitzgerald is capable of telling the difference between someone intentionally misleading the grand jury and someone merely neglecting to recall every single conversation they may have had with every single person over a fews months period of time, a couple of years ago.

Kind of makes sense... I mean it was inevitible, right? Since the 'rats have to depend on the courts to enact their agenda because they can't do it in the legislative arena, wasn't only a matter of time before they started abusing the legal system in other ways?
