The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I think it's a pretty cool idea... nothin' says "I love you" like high-powered weaponry.

:-D

I don't describe what I do as "shopping". More as "reconnaissance".

So if you want it, I pretty much know where to get it, except for really girlie-girl stuff like bath oil or makeup :p

And even then, I've waled past a coupla Loreal counters and driven by a Bed Bath & Beyond and more or less know where they all are :)

I find out that in her mind there are several other errands under the heading of getting milk.

*laughing* We're natural multi-taskers. :-D

How about when she asks you to pick something up from the store and what starts as one item soon turns into A List?

I couldn't come up with anything at the time so think it was like an off white linen suit. It'll have to change in the editing. The fact that it wasn't black just wasn't quite scandalous enough. Maybe I'll put you in an Indian sari that you got on a recent trip to see the Taj Mahal.

Yeah, but we already know what shirt we want. The ladies already know what shirt they don't want, but don't know which one they do want until they find it. Which can take some time and energy. Energy well spent at times.

But it does drive me crazy when Jeanne asks if I'd like to come with her to Publix and get some milk, and once underway, I find out that in her mind there are several other errands under the heading of getting milk.

[snort]

'zactly. And to her, your confusion doesn't make any sense. 'cuz of course "get milk" is a multivariate quantity.

HA! A smart woman would walk to the mall.

Briskly, so the guy can paddle alongside - but with enough distance to where the "shmoopikins" is barely audible over the river. :-P

Ugh, now how exactly is that fun?

I'm not normal in the world I live in either. Never have been, never will be. There aren't a lot of weird, geeky, homeschooled conservative bookworms with a taste for explosions in the world. And even fewer female ones ;-)

Out of context that sounds like it could be the opening scene in the Mexican edition of Back to the Future II -- buncha low-riders with flame paint jobs and hover conversions.

"How about when she asks you to pick something up from the store and what starts as one item soon turns into A List?"

That happened most recently about an hour ago! But even I actually find that to be logical and efficient thinking :-)

Well all this male insight into the female psyche is really fascinating, but I think I'm gonna call it a night before I start hucking box fans. :~D

Loreal counters

heheheh... reminds me of a "quick" trip dad asked me to make to this one store only in Bvue to pick up "some perfume" that D really liked, that he wanted to give her.

Turns out that this substance was available in a myriad of concoctions, potions, and various artillery devices for delivery. I was utterly clueless about which variant to get. The nice girl at the counter took much pity on me... and even cell phone calls to dad didn't seem to help much.

Took the salesgirl's advice... paid some obscene amount for a miniscule volume of the substance. Got. Out. :-)

It must be fun to them!

I've tried, but I think you gotta be born with it or brought up to really like shopping. My youngest sister Roxy, loves to shop. And I mean ~loves~ it.

She's at her happiest at a mall with several bags hanging from her hands. I enjoy shopping when I go with her because I like her company, but I'll limit myself to meeting her at one store. Otherwise it'll be an all-day quest for the perfect shoe/blouse/jeans.

I agree with ya on the bookstore. That's a place to linger.

I just had an interesting experience I thought I would share with y'all.

I participate --- off and on, currently off --- on a women's-only mailing list. (They're all barking moonbats, which is why I flounced off back at the first of November.) I don't post there, but I still read messages, and today one of the members let everyone know that she lost one of her cats, a 13-year-old tom named Gadget. I went to Rainbow Bridge and sent her a sympathy card off the list, and tonight I participated in an on-line Candlelight Vigil for departed furbabies.

I was moved.

They have this Candlelight Vigil every Monday night at 10pm Eastern at their website, www.rainbowbridge.com. If it's your kind of thing, check it out next Monday.
