Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Fare you well! Fare you well!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Of course, my dad once bought my mom 50 feet of anchor chain as a present... so that's where he gets these ideas... :~D

Man: I'm going to Publix to get milk. Be happy it's the right kind. It's the hunting instinct. All men have it whether they're sportsmen or not.
If I need a shirt, I go to the store, find the shirt I want in the color I want and size I need. I buy the shirt, I'm done.
If wife needs a shirt, she goes to five different stores comparing prices and colors and styles.
It's kinda like huntin' snipe in the middle of deer season.

I think that's true... I've long heard it said that women generally carry more variables at once than men.
If it were chess... women tend to see moves for many pieces at once, one move into the future. Men tend to see the moves for one piece, many moves into the future.
You need both views at one time or another, hence the design of man and woman operating as one. Well... that was the design anyway... :-)

Yes, your sister knows that. That's why she's so appalled at your wardrobe choices.

Yup. That's true.
Although I'm considered strange (as a female) because I really don't like shopping.
It's a necessary evil. Like the dentist.
Once in a while I feel ~inspired~ and can really go on a tear, but that's usually Christmas shopping and buying for other people. That's fun! :-P

It's not strange, I shop like a dude. Except at bookstores. Other than that, it's "plot the strategy, closest door to the objective, in, out, home".

Did I mention you bombed a convoy of crazy fanatics the other day? and then blew out second largest bridge on the planet to keep any more of them from following the heroes.
To: RMDupree
Exactly! It was latinas that were explaining this stuff to me. But the part about thinking of more than one thing at a time was part of the point. Jeanne can switch subjects in conversation breathtakingly quickly, which means that there are parallel thought processes going on.
'Course guys think about more than one thing at a time too, but they do it differently somehow. It may have more to do with the process of selection.
But it does drive me crazy when Jeanne asks if I'd like to come with her to Publix and get some milk, and once underway, I find out that in her mind there are several other errands under the heading of getting milk.

Mine was bogged down so I am going back and inserting cool actions scenes.
To: Ramius
Well... that was the design anyway... :-) Woman: I'm not getting into the canoe because I'll end up soaked to the skin and highly irritated and he'll just call me "shmoopy" again.
Man: Canoe fun. We go down river. Happy man. Woman enjoy see man happy.

Shopping for clothes is the worst. I can only bring myself to do it about annually. But when I finally do it, it only takes me about an hour. One store.
Find pants that fit. Buy six in different colors. Find shirts that fit. Buy ten in different colors. Done. Pay. Leave. Remember that I need u-trou and socks. Return to store. Pay. Leave. :-)
Now... shopping for toys at Fry's.... that's ~entirely~ different.

I decided that writing the story was considerably less boring so I switched to that. Actually the story and the critique are remarkably similar. Both are measured on length... both are full of hyperbole... both are utter crap.

I knew the folks here would understand.
I'm not "normal" in the world I live in. Girls at work and most in my own family enjoy shopping and delight in comparing their "power buys". And they all own about 10 pairs of black shoes in different styles. hehehehe...

Woman enjoy see man happy. hehehe... never work. More like:
"Please shmoopikins... get back in the canoe. I promise there's time for you to go shopping at the mall that's just a little ways ~downriver~..."
