The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well, I've left a message on Ruthy's cell phone, and I talked to her mom... Ruthy should be on the way home.

I've told her to check in with us or I'd hunt her down!

Just for the record, I'm taking things out on my word count. I'm back in the groooooove. Coming up on the final meeting between heros and the villian. Then the earth is going to get pummled by a rather unusual type of meteor....

I was gonna name the blonde bartendress "Rosie Cotton" but since she and her unborn child get killed off in a back alley in the French Quarter, I didn't think that would be very nice.

Um...yeah...I'd much rather not, thank you...

*sigh*

Hopefully my word count will also benefit from a yucky day. I went in this morning fully intending to get a LOT done, but hit snags every SINGLE step of the way. Didn't have a single thing go smoothly, except for unboxing some new laptops, which, however, came without keyboards or mice, which they were supposed to have.

And the latest rumor is that we're gonna be let go after the first. It's only a rumor, but I'm guessing we'll be gone by the second week of December, in any case.

And it's freezing in here. Gonna head to a coffee house in a bit here, I think, just to be distracted and actually WRITE rather than spending my whole evening on fruitless job searches like I did last night.

Grrrr...

Not really. The biological weapon is selective. The villian has a god-complex and thinks he can restore the Earth and mankind to their Eden-like state of innocence. He, of course, will rule over them all and do a much better job at it. So he's selected for traits and abilities (middle managers are *not* on the list) that he desires in his utopia. Everyone else dies in the plague. The meteors are loaded with nanomachines programmed to reduce man-made structures to their constituent raw materials.

OSC argues that once mankind falls, it will be nearly impossible to rebuild because the easily accessed raw materials (like iron) will have been exhausted. Mines to retrieve them would require technology beyond the capabilities the accessible materials would allow. Vicious circle. So this is my way around it. The raw materials will be laying right there on the surface, all you'd have to do is sift the zinc pebbles from the iron pebbles, etc. Thus, the villian will have an easier time building his utopia.

So, theres' that.

I'm fine, sis.

Just had some stuff to sort out and took an unintended hiatus.

What have I missed?

Not talking and not writing either, I'm ashamed to admit.
