The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Mine isn't science fiction per se ... there really IS a spaceport in West Texas. My story is set a little closer to 2010, is all.

It wasn't HAL's fault....it was a user error.

Hey there... was wondering, do you have a contact person at the company you contract for? Might not hurt to call them up and say, "Hey, this one is ending in three weeks, do you have something coming up after that that I could work on?"

Holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) can actually be kinda busy for contractors, since a lot of companies schedule upgrade projects for those times. My slowest times as a contractor over the last four years have been January and February.

heh... I didn't hear her till she was twenty yards behind me... she passed to my right at forty yards, then went behind a downed tree, (that's when I could get my gun up)... she kept getting closer to the road bed, so I let her keep walkin... you know, to shorten the drag distance... drove the ATV right up to her... sweet...

Not just yet. You're the Texas Mile employee who's about to run off to "furren parts" --- outside the state, my law! --- to pursue her master's degree ... then this engineer, newly arrived in Apache Springs and looking for a place to live, wanders into the store ...

I talked to her once before, but I do plan to bug her again. I kind of get the impression they don't handle a lot of technical jobs as a general rule, but it doesn't hurt to cover all my bases.

took the buck on a dead run at 75 yds (spooked by a trespasser on his way out)

Do you get a lot of trespassers?

You rrecruiter will be happy to hear from you. Consider this; you were receiving as salary a third to a half of the amount she's charging the client for your services. She is thereby motivated to keep you working hard ...!

My plan is to someday live in or near some deer woods. I'll plant some stuff they eat, then when they trip the laser, I'll open the window and shoot 'em, having already sited in distances in the shooting lane.
