The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well, we did talk a lot last night...he actually said it crossed his mind I might walk out. He knows I wouldn't though.

Even when I was briefly very very angry, my anger was shooting in three directions, him, the school and myself. A lot of the word "shoulda" flying around and very pointless.

But the main thing we talked about was that I "shoulda" said something a long time ago because I knew something wasn't right. But I couldn't even ask what it was because he would get so defensive! I told him he can't treat me that way...that I only have his best interests at heart.

Then I told him he owed me at *least* four years solid of being in a good mood.

That made him laugh, which you know is what I love to do...it's been my greatest coping mechanism all my life.

Then bourbon, or Jack Daniels. Scotch is, pretty much by definition, made in Scotland. Either Jack Black whiskey or Maker's Mark bourbon would be very appropriate. Don't mix it, don't pour it over rocks; just a couple of fingers or a splash of whiskey in a glass.

And he should savor it, not knock it back like medicine! It's called "sipping whiskey." Especially Jack Black, which is procesed to be smooth going down.

Sorry, I didn't tell you ...

Bourbon is made in Kentucky, or used to be. And Jack is made in Tennessee. Even your man's tastes are nationalistic.

Ok, well Kentucky and Tennessee don't exist anymore as we know them, but the Know-how may have survived and moved west into the nationalist territories. He can reminisce about the good old days when you could get proper bourbon.

He is going to knock one back like medicine after he crosses a personal ethical line.

He sat at the table and ~screamed~ for a good 15 minutes, with green beans in his mouth and tears and drool running down his face.

When our #1 son was about 4, I made him eat all the carrots on his plate. There weren't many, but I was bound and determined to be in control of the situation. He did as he was told, then promptly threw up all over the table. That's the last time I forced any of the little ones to eat their veggies. I figured that it was a battle I wasn't going to win, so I let it go and just made sure they all had their vitamins every day. Most of them decided along the way to try, then eat, some veggies; all except Clare. Now I have her take a multi-vitamin and a phyto-nutrient supplement. She seems to be thriving. ;o)

Not sure exactly what is in there since I have never had it. But it is CHEAP and right next to other cheap stuff like 'thunderbird'. I can't recall where I heard they were popular with homeless whino's. Probably heard it from a drinking buddy in college.

The people in the hills will never stop brewing whiskey.

To make a true bourbon, you need to age it in new charred casks of some special kind of wood. But bourbon is mostly corn liquor.

Mighty mighty pleasin',
Pappy's corn squeezins,
Oooooooooooooo! White lightnin'!

G-Men, T-Men, Revenuers, too,
Searchin' for the place where he made his brew.
They went lookin',
tryin' to book him,
but my pappy kept on cookin'
Oooooooooooooo! White lightnin'!

What's the word?
Thunderbird!
What's the price?
Forty twice!
How's it sold?
Good and cold!

Can't make rum without sugarcane. Can't grow sugarcane without low wetlands. Not enough of those in the West.

Well...that just killed my appetite for the morning.

As my daddy would say, "Mix it all up! It all goes down the same gullet!"

Of course, this was a man who drank Scotch and milk, and who would fry a slice of bologna, put it on a sandwich, and top it off with grape jelly.

<shudder>

See, if you look at it right, buttered mashed potatoes and ketchup really isn't all that bad ...!

Whiskey, neat.

Sweet tropical drink with an umbrella.
