The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm thinking that one day someone will have all of the Hobbit Hole threads printed and binded and we'll all be characters in a best-seller.

Heh, accelerants are our friend. Hmmm. VOCs. Steaks sound good as well.

Really great kitty pics. Much relieved to hear that G & H are treating their new siblings with care.

It's still a thing about autumn I miss; raking the leaves to side of the road and burning them. sigh. crisp sunny afternoons and acrid smell of smoke tendriling its way throughout the neighborhood. so many years ago...

Fallen leaves here are almost always wet. We couldn't get them to burn with gasoline :~D

That would be a problem, burning wise; but it might make them easier to compost. :-)

Actually we mulch or compost as much as we can but still end up having bags for the recycling center.

I have no need for compost, but I got lots of room to spread the leaves somewhere else :~D

Yuck. Laundry here too.

Getting ready to head out to pick up Becky from my sister's house.

I may brave the crowds at Target to pick up a VCR/DVD combo thingy they have on sale.

We had one in the living room, but thekids must have broken it somehow and it belongs to my mom. I feel obligated to replace it, even if it's with a lesser brand. :-/
