The Hobbit Hole XXV - Fare you well! Fare you well!
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 10/15/2005 7:13:08 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Fare you well! Fare you well!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm having costume ~issues~ this morning. I need something like a striped sweater vest. Fairly obnoxious. But all I can find so far are solid colors.

Thrift store?

Hullo...checking in before I head to work in a bit. We're working a sort of swing shift, as I said, in order to work on process machines that can't be touched during the day. It's going to make for a late night, and a drive home in true darkness. *sigh* And I dunno when or if I'll get any writing in. I have a few minutes here and now, but there's no way I'm gonna get in more than a couple hundred words.

On the bright side (I guess...I'm feelin' rather bittersweet about it), I'm now pretty much a Colorado resident. Got my license and registered Vansama this morning. Give me a few days to actually do the license plate switcharoo. *snif*

“Will Aunt Diana be able to make it?” Ann asked in an innocent tone that reminded Evelyn why she loved her daughter-in-law so much.

And in that moment, everyone knew that if looks could indeed kill, the MacKenzie-Hubbard household would be preparing for a second funeral.

“Yes,” said Mary Gladys, rather abruptly. “She’s flying herself in tomorrow.”

“Did you say ‘flying herself in?’” asked Ann, suppressing a smile.

Diana was the renegade, and much to the chagrin of Mary Gladys, always the Captain’s favorite. She enlisted in the Air Force right out of high school. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, she bought a horse farm outside of Seattle where she gave riding lessons to under privileged youth. The fact that she flew her own twin engine Cessna was just another reason for Mary Gladys to disapprove of her younger sister.

But Evelyn and her children loved her. She was the one who convinced Evelyn to hold out for the Mustang in exchange for going to the debutante ball.

“My sister will arrive tomorrow, assuming she doesn’t fly herself into the Rocky Mountains,” said Mary Gladys in a tone of voice that showed both disgust and wishful thinking. “I would certainly hope that she would at least own a pair of black boots.”

You may end up flying Evelyn and her son Philip (the alcoholic who saves the day) around while they do some research...

Yep, you were right...PSO is blaming it on the wind. It's blowing a gale! I could barely keep my van on the road coming home from the library!

The National Weather Service In Tulsa Has Issued A Wind Advisory For Most Of Eastern Oklahoma And Northwest Arkansas Through 6 PM This Afternoon.

A Strong Developing Low Pressure System Over The Central Plains Will Continue To Bring Strong Gusty Winds To The Region Today. South To Southwest Winds Are Expected To Increase To Around 30 Mph By Late Morning With Gusts To Around 40 Mph Into The Afternoon Hours. Winds In The Arkansas River Valley Around Fort Smith Are Expected To Remain Somewhat Less With Gusts In The 30 To 35 Mph Range. Frequent Gusts To 40 Mph Will Be Likely In The Higher Terrain Areas Of Southeast Oklahoma And Northwest Arkansas. The Winds Are Expected To Decrease By Late Afternoon With The Loss Of Daytime Heating.

A Wind Advisory Means That Wind Gusts Of 40 Mph Are Expected. Winds This Strong Can Make Driving Difficult... Especially For High Profile Vehicles. Use Extra Caution.

Motorists Should Exercise Caution While Driving Today. Be Alert To Sudden Gusts Of Wind Which May Cause You To Lose Control Of Your Vehicle. Extra Attention Should Be Given To Cross Winds When Driving On East To West Roads... And On Bridges And Overpasses.

These Winds Will Also Make Open Waters Of Lakes Very Rough And Hazardous... And Will Result In High Waves Which Will Likely Tip Or Swamp Smaller Craft. For Your Personal Safety... Avoid The Open Waters Until The Winds Subside.

It's incredibly, scary windy here, too. I was driving white knuckled back from down town, fighting it. And I almost slammed a car door into the car next to me because the wind snatched it from me.

The trees are getting down to bare. The wind is just stripping 'em in a jiffy.

Heh...my new license photo is gonna be the wind-blown look, I'm afraid. I didn't get to see it, but I can imagine.

So you're not going to be driving any East-West bridges over water today?

We've got 21 mph winds with 28 gusts...at least that's what the weather people say.

Our weather page says: W 37 G 51 MPH. Whatever that means. In any case, it's WINDY. And it's kinda scary.

It reminds me that I'd never be able to deal with hurricanes. ;-)

“Wah…. How..” Yi’s mouth opened and closed like a panting Guido beast as she tried to pick a question. As the shock wore off her left hand grasped the handle of the Risto knife. “Why did you come back? Why did you LEAVE?” Her voice was angry and accusing. “Why did you leave us?” The anger faded slightly. ‘Why did you leave me’ died on her lips. Her look pleaded with him for answers.

Up to 4047. :D
